Be Your Own Cheerleader: Key Points
How would you feel if you had a personal cheerleader following you around the whole day and celebrating every one of your small and large successes? Brushed your teeth, Horay! Ate lunch, Horay! Walked the dog, Horay! Answered an email, Horay! You don't celebrate your achievements as much as you should. This is a habit you can build. Everything you do should be awesome, even if it's a minor thing. Lower your bar for personal awesomeness so you feel successful all the time. Celebrate insignificant achievements like taking out the trash. It seems silly, but why not? Try it an see how you feel. It's empowering.
If you don't become your own cheerleader, you will rely on others to cheer you on. But that's not always an option. If you're a leader, entrepreneur, or visionary, you don't have the luxury of relying on external validation. Many of your ideas and actions will initially be rejected by the world. If you rely on the world's validation, you won't have the confidence to push things through.
It's not necessary to reject all external validation, but you should minimize your reliance on it. For example, if someone gives you a compliment about your dress, take it to heart. But don't let a lack of compliment about your dress make you feel insecure. Basically, compliment yourself! The same applies to your ideas, your goals, your actions. Rarely will people give you the acknowledgement you deserve, so do it for yourself.
