Realistic Vibes

By Leo Gura - October 19, 2026

Reality is ironic because sometimes the thing that seems the most realistic is actually a fantasy, and the thing that seems like a fantasy, is real. Scientists and academics forget that Reality can be fantastical. Fantastical aspects of Reality are not an epistemic mistake, not a lack of rational rigor. True rationality leads to some fantastical places. You cannot judge the truth of a thing by how “realistic” it feels. Realistic vibes are not a reliable way of distinguishing truth from falsehood. Truth can be fantastical and falsehood can be mundane and “scientific”. Scientific vibes != truth, and mystical vibes != falsehood. Many rationalists make this simplistic mistake. Hence the thought-terminating cliche of calling things “woo-woo”. As if a ball of hydrogen gas the size of 1000 Earths burning for 20 billion years is not woo-woo. As if a nuclear explosion is not woo! What the fuck isn’t woo-woo? Everything going on inside of an atom is woo-woo if you stop taking it for granted. Are you seriously going to say that the Big Bang is not woo-woo? What a bunch of biased baloney.

Truth can be outlandish. That’s why openmindedness is so important. Most closedmindedness just boils to this: “It doesn’t sound realistic so it cant be true”. But your mind’s idea of realistic is gotten where? From culture and group-think, not from an independent source of truth. Notice the vicious circularity of this: “I’m not going to take that idea seriously because it sounds too unrealistic.” But how do you know your criteria for what is realistic isn’t wrong? After all, where did you get it? How did you reliably ascertain what real is? Look how deep this goes: How do you even know what “real” is supposed to look like? What if your mind never knew what “real” was? That’s the rub!

The key insight is this: your mind never knew what “realistic” meant. The key is realizing that you don’t know what real is! If you were raised in a Satanic cult, demons would feel realistic to you, but that doesn’t make it true. Your feeling of realism is easily hijacked and perverted by social conditioning, indoctrination, education, civilization, and your experience. You never consciously decided on your criteria for realism, you unconsciously absorbed it from your culture. This is true of even the best scientists. The scientist’s radar for realism is warped and corrupt. At the end of the day, why is God denied by science? Not because of logic or evidence, but simply because it sounds unrealistic. God sounds too magical to be true. But why can’t Truth be magic? “But magic can’t exist!” Who said? How does science know that magic does not exist? If you are a proper scientist your mind should be open to the possibility that magic exists. Closing your mind to magic is not true science, it’s fake science, because the truth is that you don’t know. Have you explored the whole universe? Then how can you jump to the conclusion that magic can’t exist?

Confidently proclaiming that magic cannot exist, is not science, it is pseudo-science.

After all, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” — Arthur C. Clarke

Hypocritically, science’s rejection of God is not evidence-based, it is vibes-based. Science rejects God because God has the wrong vibes. Culture gives God stupid, hippie, smooth-brained vibes; superstitious vibes; anthropomorphic vibes; the kind of vibes a professional scientist cannot take seriously. God gives science the ick. God just doesn’t seem scientific. But the reason we do philosophy is because we know that appearances can be deceiving.

Granted, God doesn’t seem scientific, but what if it nevertheless is? Why isn’t science open to this possibility? The point is, it is wrong to close your mind any possibility just because you don’t like its vibes — that’s called bias and prejudice. Science is literally racist against God! Trying to prove God to science is like arguing with a racist. The racist makes it seem like his racism is grounded in science, facts, and cold logic, but it never is, he’s just rationalizing his prejudice.

Truth-seeking requires a commitment to follow the truth wherever it leads. If Truth leads to unicorns, then you bravely enter the land of unicorns. You do not say, “Ewww… Unicorns? That’s so unrealistic it must be wrong.” This is where scientific people blunder. Just follow the truth wherever it leads, without prejudice. Stop being racist! — in the broadest sense of that word.

If Satan was the truth then I would be a Satan worshiper. That’s not a mistake. If Satan is true, Satan should be revered. Satan isn’t evil because he is nasty, Satan is evil because he is false.
