Watch out for this trap. This example is gross and obvious. In your case the conflation will be much more subtle.

Do not use God to rationalize your survival. God does not care about your success. God does not care about your church’s success. God does not care about the spread of your belief system. God does not care if your children live or die. The ego cares about those things, not God.
