Religion only exists for one simple reason: Because the only thing that exists is God.

No human being is intelligent enough to invent God. Humans wish they were that intelligent! God is a direct experience. All religion comes from direct experience of God, unbelievable as that may sound to a scientist. Science has a long way to go before it understands religion.

See? You can crunch all the physics equations known to man, and you will still not understand why religion exists. That is how limited rationalism is.

How do you understand why religion exists? You will only understand at the moment you experience God. Then, in an instant, all religions will become obvious to you. Religion exists because some people actually experience God and then tell everyone else about it. But then those listening who haven’t experienced it misunderstand what is told.

The existence of Christopher Hitchens should terrify you epistemically. If someone as smart as him could deceive himself so confidently, what hope is there for anyone?
