Why Do We Feel Lonely Among Other People?

3 posts in this topic

I have been looking for an answer for this question since long time. I have read many life stories and seen many people who suffer from loneliness. They are actually really social people. Some of them have thousands of friends, they go parties, clubs, cafes everyday... Most of them are rich. Long story short, vast variety of people have the same problem which is loneliness.

I had a chance to talk to some of them. There was a girl who really fed up and told me that I got bored of everything, everyone around me is fake, they judge me criticize me. And some of them told me that you're doing what is right, I wish I could do it as you do.

Well I am lonely and I want to be like them. Ironically, some of them want to be like me.

I don't feel lonely among other people because I am lonely all the time and occassionaly talking to someone is good for me. I am happy with what I have but they are not happy but they have everything that I want.

This is really funny and nonsense. I never tell anyone to be like me and loneliness is good. Seriously, it's not.

We're basically in a rat race chasing things outside of ourselves to become fulfilled. I think being fundamentally different entails having different agendas. You can connect with somebody deeply but he's gonna wanna do things his way. He's gonna wanna do what he wants to do. That's where we feel alone.

And even if we succeed at not being alone that will not bring us fulfillment by itself. Hedonic adaptation will kick in.

Ultimately we ARE alone. Piling up thousands of "friends" is only going to make it more difficult to deny that basic fact.

For what it's worth, try this on for size:

Thanks for the video. I started watch all other videos of this guy. It's very teaching. Thank you!
