Check the software biggest companies by market cap. All of them started in a garage or someone's dorm room.

Msft, Nvidia, Amazon, Google, Meta, Tesla all had very humble beginnings. 

Aka a small business. 

But there were no govt regulations to pester them while they were growing. They made the most of the wild west.

The VC funding comes only when the owners can prove that they can have viable profit generation scope in future.  They still start off as small business. 

No one will throw money at you for fun and those that do are highly likely to fail. All big money starts off somewhere small.

Still it's something to think about when government props up regulations, we are not seeing garage based businesses succeed like they used to.

@erik8lrl  Most of AI hype is to woo investor and keep other AI competitors in check . so everybody is on there toes which is good as development will happen faster. AGI is too early to even have discussion on . What AI will bring is more sophisticated automation which will cut the output time for a specific / complex work to bare minimum.

I think in future AGI will come in form of specific areas of human intelligence and not total full blown AGI which will compete with human .

@Leo Gura It's a nice reconceptualization when you think of some nomads in the tundra actually having more than enough of water in the form of snow, energy in the form wood and food in the form of thriving ecosystem.

Some did, some didn't. It really depends on the time and place. And also the political situation.

My dude we are still using dead plants and metals to keep the lights on just like we did 5000 years ago.

Just because we got more more dead plants to power us doesn't make it any better. This is still the scarcity age like 5000 years ago. Nothing has really changed. Pathetic state of affairs.

The bare minimum is nuclear fusion or harness the energy of sun. Until then it's sticks and stones all the way.

Relax, there will be no AGI or AI or fluffy robots to sleep with, for the trivial reason that intelligence is a property of consciousness and consciousness is the nature of reality and you cannot simulate the nature of reality. One characteristic of intelligence is the bringing of new ideas into existence out of nothing. For this you need reason, free will, etc., not atoms bumping into each other like in a computer.
