Leo as a fellow non drinker, do you ever cook with wine?

19 posts in this topic

I don't like alcohol and don't drink at all in order to maximise my health.

I don't currently cook with wine, but I love the taste of wed wine in food. Red wine vinegar is just not the same.

I was thinking about starting to use red wine in dishes, because whenever I try someone else's cooking, I love the flavour, but I don't really want to start if it's gonna be unhealthy.

From my understanding, the alcohol doens't completely burn off, unless cooked for many hours. and i'm not sure if there's also other things beside the alcohol that make these drinks bad?

thank you

You really should not be concered about adding some red wine to refine your savory food-ideas.
If you don't have serious medical (like cirrhosis of the liver), religious or strong personal reasons, I don't see how it would change anything.
You are certainly not going to make or break your health by adding some red wine.

That said, you could look into alcohol-free red wine if you want to retain the taste without the alcohol.

It's an insignificant amount of alcohol.

I don't have any recipes that call for it.

You should be asking a cook, not a drinker or a non-drinker. A cook who drinks is even better. Asking a non-cook and a non- drinker is like asking Leo. I'm a cook and a red wine drinker. Don't worry about all that; if anything, worry about what you're cooking and what you're cooking it in, I'm saying that as a cook, not a drinker.

Can't you just buy non-alcoholic wine? The alcohol itself adds nothing of value to your dish.

The value is in the taste.

There are non-alcoholic substitutes with the same "kick"

Alcohol is one of the things I can’t get addicted too while things like porn or sex is a problem to do it without binging.

I am happily addicted to porn. I love it. It's a habit just like sadhanas ;)

I became addicted after I was not able to synthesize and isolated dmt and other substances due to certain circumstances. Never touched it before. It is worse than vaping(I don't use=1 year). But alcohol is a hell of a drug and.makes food taste delicious!

I only drink red wine every two weeks. Half a bottle is enough for me to get tipsy.

And my rule is to never drink more then 3/4th of a bottle and never eat after. And I always have to do it in a social setting.

Alcohol makes socializing much more fun. I don’t see another use for it imo. You will never see me at home drinking and then just sitting at home eating.

New research proves that drinking alcohol rewires your brain to become more prone to addiction in general

Yes, we are tragically aware of all the home-cooks who spiraled down a hellish path of pornography and fentanyl-addiction after adding some millilitres of white wine to their bolognese sauce.

You look at naked women on screen and love it and call half-naked women in your experience sluts. You see the delusion. That's the only reason you call them sluts is because of your own mind deceiving you. I'm gonna leave you alone now in your illusory world of porn. Hehe. don't want to carry that over here where we're discussing the effects of wine. I just can't help watching you delude yourself. Hehehehe

Even fruit juice is mildly alcoholic.  Hell, nonalcoholic wine is still 0.5% alcohol.  Try not to worry about it.  Tiny quantities of alcohol won't do anything to you.  It's moderate to heavy consumption that you should be weary of.

From what I know, when you cook with wine, alcohol evaporates. But you should double-check.

thanks guys, non-alcoholic wine is a great idea, i'm going to use that! I'm going to look carefully at the labels as I hear some of them are just glorified cherry juice, but does anyone know if there's any unhealthy ingredients to look out for?

Presumably in alcoholic wine, there's no bad ingredients per se, it's the process that makes it unhealthy because it turns the grape into alcohol?
Hopefully non alcoholic wine is just the same minus the alcohol.
