What To Do With Your Free Time

26 posts in this topic

So, lately i've felt quite happy with my practice and the insights found on these forums.

But i've found boredom to be an issue now. I just don't really know what to do during empty moments.
What are some good activities for the bored buddha?

@zazed, you need a passion and a life purpose in your life. Then you'll never be bored again.

They want reality, so I give 'em a fatal dosage.

When you begin to meditate...you will rejoice when you have noting to do. For meditators, being stuck in traffic or being at home with nothing to do gives us the opportunity of feeling that inner joy that is within us.

So start a meditation practice asap. See Leo's video on the do nothing technique.

allow yourself to wander....we always look for ''activities'' in  which we lock ourselves in.

there is a state between doing nothing and doing an 'activity', that state is a place of growth, that state where you're looking for the next step.
just allow yourself to be in that state without fixating on a certain thing to do.
it's like a bridge between you and your next clear purpose, if you can learn to walk this bridge comfortably, you will gain a greater insight on your desires.

if you want to get off the bridge too fast, you'll fall into an activity that will not be as fruitful and full of lessons had you waited more, you'll probably fall into something you did before, repeat and routine ;

boredom is a sacred place of learning about your true desires, respect the boredom, be grateful for it, for it will show you the way to fresh desires

@Dodoster That's a good idea, i've entertained before. But how does one start? Also i'm poor at drawing.
I've always wanted to play piano, but it's an expensive hobby and difficult to learn.

Listen to http://osho.radio.net/ while completely relaxing. It will calm your mind.

Osho said that

“I don't speak to teach something; I speak to create something. These are not lectures; these are simply a device for you to become silent, because if you are told to become silent without making any effort you will find great difficulty.”

" My words keep you awake, and just between the words I give you gaps. And those are the real, essential things. Waiting for another word, you have to listen to silence.

In the book of not knowing Peter Ralston mentions that boredom is just an existential insecurity.

So investigate and love the feeling. After all, it is an emotion just like sadness. :)
