"Anytime you are confused and your mind is in conflict, do asanas. Sit in an asana and you see that clarity comes right away. Effect of asana is that it clears out all conflicts, dualities."

"So yoga is that which brings the balance. Asanas have this dual effect on the body and mind and it frees you from the turmoil which troubles you. " ~ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

This advice have helped me a lot, and upon experiencing mental agitation or confusion due to proliferation of mental stimuli or thoughts-emotions, I used to sit down in the lotus position or padmasana, and found my mind becoming more stable and calmer effortlessly and pretty quick.

This helped me to calm the mind, bring mental clarity and sort out any issues at hand better. I also find sitting in padmasana more useful for meditation and contemplaton than sitting in a chair or sofa.

Other techniques that help in this regard are observation of the breath and trataka.

@Ajay0 Padmasana/Siddhasana are very great poses, no wonder it is used during meditation. That particular asana is like a fist that you clinch, but in an energetic way. It doesn't "leak" prana. When I sit down in Siddhasana I immediately feel my 3rd eye chakra center pumping.

Actually the purpose of Hatha yoga is only to master 2 asanas, and those are Padmasana/Siddhasana , you need to strengthen your body so much that you can sit comfortably in those poses for 3-4 hours in meditation.
