Im making a Spiritual interactive experience, any thoughts?

5 posts in this topic

Hi, im making a Spiritual Fiction, "Spi-fi", "game" about the archetypical journey of seeking isolation to find truth within. Obviously set in a desert ;-)
Please have a look at my steam page and give critique: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2703140/?snr=1_5_9__205

Im posting because im not sure what direction it will take and would love some ideas :)
Im not sure about alot of things, even the name so any ideas are welcome. Also im not sure where it´s going to go story wise. I want the game to apeal to alot of people even thou i know that at the base it´s a very nieche game, so I´ve introduced the ego as some sort of nemesis. The player navigates two worlds, the desert and the inner and at some point the ego of the inner world will seep into the desert and there will be some sort of confrontation and "the night of the soul" will come into play somehow. But yea im not sure, so any ideas are very welcome!

Also Im doing this part time and hopefully this is a ticket out of the boring job I have and I don´t have much money for advertisement so please please if you want this to become reality spread the word <3
A demo will be available soon.
Also sorry if this is the wrong section to post this, wasnt very sure where to!

Hey luckie,  good luck with your endeavor, I'm curious to find out what you create.  I use to be a quality assurance tester for LucasArts.  There's many directions you can take in this, but going off of what you said, and wanting it to be approachable to a more general audience I'd use themes that are more in line with your general targeted audience even though they are their core the ego and the dark night of the soul type experience (which it sounds like you are doing?).  Many games I've played weave idea's of the psyche, mind, the inner voice, overcoming inner and outer challenges that are linked together, friendship, ambience and harmony.

Whats your core hope with this, to elicit a spirtual experience, to share spiritual idea's, to entertain?  Because if your wanting to elicit spiritual experience, ambience and calming of the player will go a long ways.  I recall a game I never played but watched call Journey, and its a simple game with no dialogue in which you travel through a desert like area solving puzzles about a civilization no longer around.  Theres even multiplayer with no talking.  But its so sublte, beautiful and serene that it really just opened the heart and awe of life.  Sometimes dialogue and story is secondary to creating a felt experience.

Just some food for thought.

Here's a Journey playthrough with no commentary, see what it feels like to just watch this and maybe it will instill some idea's in you....

@luckieluuke I’ve just checked it and despite being a total ignorant in computer games I like Your concept and desert scenario. Game of light and shadows, caves and open spaces👍😘

Good luck my Friend😊

@Mu_ Journey is somewhat an inspiration, right on :)
I want the game to be a spiritual exploration, hence the meditation/inner world is actual meditation. So it´s quite niche in that way. But the desert world is more similar to survival type of game.
But yea you make a really good point that it should be calming "gameplay", which it only partly is. Thanks!

@Kuba Powiertowski
Thanks, If you like it who are not into computer games it means alot :)
