The correlation of Health and Wealth

6 posts in this topic

I think is pretty obvious and impossible to not correlate this two things. We can relativise as we wish saying that " but there are Wealthy people who have bad diets, or that there are Unwealthy people that dicipline themselfs to eat wholefoods and bla bla..

Yes I belive all is possible, but in the end of the day if you have access to good nutrition, fruits, minerals, supplements, medical care etc.. the chances of a good cognitive flow is granted.

If your body and mind are working in optimal level than insigths come clear.

The thing is that this correlation goes both ways. To improve your diet and close nutritional gaps you must earn better to be able to get better quality nutrition and avoid contaminants, but at same time to cognize better to earn better you still will need to in some form close the nutrition gap. You are what you eat? What are you feeding yourself daily?

I can see clearly the difference in my daily thougths and even dreams when I feed myself properly and when I dont. I and can normaly have good quality food, although I know I can get much better in it with more income to invest in better organic foods, medicinal mushrooms, etc..

Is not a question of lack of shops and sources of good food anymore, is a question that this resources are not cheap. So , lets have compassion when we see some people that cannot function well. Just see what kind of nutrition they are pouring down into their system in a daily basis and for years. Think for example of people like the ones in a recent Leo video from Philiphines I think, who eat food from the bins.

If we're talking about poor countries, then yes. Malnutrition also affects IQ heavily during development.

But there are diminishing returns to that law. If a person isn't rich in a developed country it's probably because of culture rather than nutrition.
By that I mean limiting beliefs, lack of discipline, distractions, and whatever influences that convince you that a 9-5 is better than risking entrepreneurship.

While it's true the average person's nutrition habits could be a lot better, I believe the impact on cognition isn't so radical. I even think (I don't have evidence), that if you only consider the population above poverty, basically where they can always afford food, even if they may make sacrifices elsewhere, that you wouldn't see much difference compared to rich people, if you look at the entire diet and lifestyle.

And finally, a lot of IQ is genetic. Once you aren't malnourished, your potential shouldn't be affected by much by the circumstances. And I'm sure the correlation between IQ and healthy habits is there. So the correlation between health and wealth MAY be caused by genetics.

I am no expert of course, but personally I expect people of all backgrounds are often unhealthy regardless of whatever they're doing but rather because of their upbringing and how it affects their feelings and thoughts and actions. I don't know how often that is though. It could be 1 in 4 or more, from my thoughts.  A lot of people get caught up in anger, judgment, or embarrassment, or subdued. and other things like that. They say these things are a result of trauma. I feel like happiness is found in community more than anything else, but I have heard that those without wealth are prone to struggle with mental health due to the stress of being poor, so having your basic needs is in that way connected to unhealthiness

I think the rich eat more fresh and they generally eat very little in a bigger gap between meals.

Poor people die soon. I believe that's a well researched truth. Maybe your logic is the one of the reasons why the income gap in my country is becoming wider and wider.
