Help me to find a reason to buy a new Smartphone

36 posts in this topic

I have an 4 years old Smartphone (huawei mate 20) and am thinking about to switch to one of the top flag Ship Smartphone of this year :honor magic 5 pro.

But I struggle to find a reason to buy it. My old Smartphone works fine. The New one has so much Power but I dont know for what Apps or Features I need that power. I am not into games on Handy. Can you help me?

Nooooo. That phone had emotions. After it's abandoned, it will cry.

I just saw it on google, it looks super ugly, and android...

Take an iPhone SE: Fairly small/discreet, classy, IOS.

Don't change your phone, and if you do change your phone then don't pay so much attention to the hardware unless you have very specific requirements, otherwise it's a bit of a sales argument. :)

Is there anything in particular you want to do with your phone or just casual use? 🤔

@Schizophonia I am doing A LOT of browsing on internet, using many google products (Gmail, Youtube, notes, Google drive, Google maps etc), watching a lot of Youtube Videos. Shooting Photos just occasionally, I am not into Shooting beautiful Photos so all these fancy Editors and zoom functions are worthless to me.

But maybe I missed something. I am open to New behaviour on using Smartphones. Maybe for tracking biodata etc. I just have no idea whats really worth of usage

There are free and powerful photo and video editing and drawing apps rivaling pc softwares. You can use those without any lags.

Faster processor improves gaming and browsing lags, especially if the websites are content heavy.

Faster startup times.

Good quality screen means better viewing experience for movies, videos and general usage.

Banking apps require good security. Latest models provide that since OS is updated often.

With large ram, you can use multiple apps at the same time without them getting restarted every time you switch. Aiso applicable to multiple browser windows in Chrome or others. You don't need more than 8gb mostly though.

@An young being Good points!

I am thinking about the future and other gadgets too.

I dont know if I miss something with all these smart watches, vr Headset.

Apples New vr Headset looks amazing. If other companies cannot catch up then maybe I need an iPhone to build an eco System

@Thought Art So with my  4 years old smartphone I can everything do like with the new ones out now? Nothing new in these 4 years?

Sad..

Only reason would be then higher performance and battery life and a bit better internet connection maybe. The display is very good on huawei mate 20

@Lila9 Yeah you are same Boad as me.

But there is a chance that we are just too old and ignorant about the newest must have Features  on next gen Smartphones

For me the functions in my phone are enough. I do things on my phone like calling, taking photos, listening to music, scrolling the internet (and all the basic things involved like the calculator, the alarm clock, calendar, notes and all the apps I need like YT).

I don't feel like I need more than this, this is great for me already.

I also try not to spend so much time on my phone and read books and do my hobbies instead.

I'm in my 20's and my brain is still developing and unfortunately I already see how my smartphone screwed my attention span during the years. I always tell myself that if my smartphone will break, I won't buy a new one (but who knows, it's difficult to live in the modern society without having a smartphone).

If you feel like you don't want to miss out on the new features go for it. Having a smartphone for 4 years it's a lot for today, usually people upgrade every two years. You can sell your phone on eBay.

It only takes a few days of abstention to regain concentration. The worst is music, it destroys motivation/concentration to the point where I wonder if the Islamists are not so wrong to condemn it lol.

As far as I can tell, phones are at a point of diminishing return on new models. Might be worth watching phone reviews.

probably only if you choose to iPhone you will notice a difference. And still is just a difference of fluidity/efficiency. Not much.

Mostly it's true that everything becomes better and not new with the high end models, but here are some features that your particular model offers new:

1. Water resistance

2. Face id scanner

3.5g network compatibility

4. Latest android system, meaning more features ( but barely noticeable)

My personal opinion is that, if you don't need these features, and not a heavy phone user, you don't need a flagship phone. I am a heavy smartphone user, I have hundreds of apps installed in my phone and my phone costs something around 250$ bought before 2 years. I have faced no lags ( except when storage space gets full) and even gaming and multi tasking is good. ( Provided I don't switch between more than 3 apps at a time).

I would suggest you to buy a new phone every 3 years simply for the security updates, but not specifically a flagship phone. If you don't need any lags in performance, you should look for:

1. A good processor

2. 8 gb ram or more

3. Atleast 128 gb storage space

4.5g compatibility

I think you could get all these for around 300-400 dollars or even lesser.
