Increase appetite

30 posts in this topic

I need quite a few calories just to maintain my weight (at least around 2500), but I'm never hungry or almost, most of the time the food is not interesting and I force myself to eat, to unless it is very transformed.

I tried Mirtazapine and it didn't change anything, same for periactin and fenugreek.

What else could I try?

You're right to a certain extent, but worrying about possible strange behavior when taking a benzo or similar product when you're having several sleepless nights a week is like putting the cart before the horse.

Why are you having sleepless nights. Figure that out. Problem solved. Don't shut the body up. Don't suppress it. It speaks to you. It's crying out to you and now you want to shut it up and suffocate it with pills.

You wouldn't say the same thing to someone who suffers from widespread cancer, neuralgia, or any chronic illness.
For some reason, people suddenly become idealistic when it comes to a handful of illnesses, especially chronic insomnia and depression, but that's an illusion.
These diseases are, at least at some stage, no less idiopathic than any other condition.

This path does not work/leads nowhere, in the meantime millions of people around the world have literally saved their lives with Z-Drugs, Benzodiazepines, sometimes antidepressants.

Only thing that really increases appetite well is heavy resistance training that produces a training response and muscle mass gains. Squats and deadlifts in particular, but any full body routine works.

Exercise, physical labor, fasting. Don't have snacks. Eat nutritious food when  hungry. Maybe skip a meal or two.

Does your appetite get better after you slept well?
I would not play around with drugs that will increase your appetite - that's beyond unnecessary in your case. If you are really struggling with maintaining calorie intake, you could always substitute with  energy gels or other means of high energy density foods (shots of super high quality olive oil for example).

You are coming down on me with excuses and ignorance. I'm not saying don't treat the body. Plus, I'm not referring to people with cancer and chronic diseases. Whatever it takes to keep the body alive when it comes down to chronic illnesses and life-threatening diseases, I'm down for.

You didn't say you had a life-threatening illness. So, saying to me I wouldn't say the same thing to someone who has cancer, etc is being dismissive to the point I'm trying to make and making arguments that has nothing to do with the original position of your post. You said you couldn't sleep. Why can't you sleep. Why do you have sleepless nights. A pill can't answer that for you. Your reliance of a pill or drug to sleep will not solve your sleepiness nights.

Seeing your posts on here from day one and noticing the substances you promote and also your eating and drinking habits, says a lot. I'm not surprised you can't sleep. You cannot fill the body up with whatever drug, substance or chemical you want and expect it to function properly. I'm not perfect myself and I do somethings myself that isn't good for my body and mind, but awareness is the key in helping to resolve many issues in life that arises.

There are certain traits, habits and similarities that are prevalent in people with certain conditions and can be prevented with the discontinued use of whatever was causing the dis-ease in the first place. We pop pills to try to silence the body when it screams at us that something is wrong, then we create more dis-ease from the pills we are popping. Then we pop another pill to shut that up and the cycle goes on until it becomes life-threatening and then the cycle goes on some more until the body caves in.

Yes, many lives have been saved through certain medications, synthetic treatments and procedures. Your insomnia is caused by something and maybe by addressing that issue or issues, you may be able to prevent another issue that may arise from the taking of sleeping pills that the body isn't equipped to process properly because it wasn't designed for it's use. There are plenty of substances and treatments that are available to treat the body in a more holistic way and would be more gentle to it because it recognizes the properties in that said medicine.

You don't go slapping a baby when it cries and suffocate it into shutting up, you gently give it love and attention and slowly comfort it with tender love and care. Well, when the body is screaming at you with problematic symptoms and trying to tell you something is wrong, before it gets too late where it can become cancerous and life-threatening, it's best to figure out what is causing the problem instead of shutting it up with foreign substances that was designed to create more problems in the long run and treat it accordingly.

You don't have to do any of these things, you can go pop as many pills as you so desire; and if I was to develop a life-threatening illness that required me to pop 100 pills, I would probably do it too, but I would not try to argue my way out of, or give excuses to anyone why pill popping has saved lives or how it is needed for depression and or anxiety and would turn inward and realize that maybe, just maybe if I had made better choices in how I treated my body both physically and mentally and was more proactive in getting the information needed for preventative care, I probably wouldn't be in the position I found myself in.

P.S. I am not referring to anyone who was born with a condition, anyone who has developed any diseases that was out of their control, anyone with neurological mental disorders or anything similar. I'm referring to illnesses that are 100% preventable and that, if treated properly under the correct conditions, can be cured not suppressed.

You don't know everything that may have contributed to my insomnia and that I'm not telling you for various reasons.
The fact is that I now have a brain that tends excessively toward hypervigilence, and that this is resistant to behavioral therapies.

And yes, sleep hygiene helps, but not all the time and to a sufficient extent in the long term.

I don't take any medication and my diet has been very balanced + caffeine-free for a while. When you see lots of videos of a YouTuber who eats things in a row, you may say to yourself "I wonder how he manages not to gain weight with everything he eats!", it's a cognitive illusion because The only things you see of him are his displayed consumption of food, but he doesn't eat like an animal every day, obviously. Well it's the same for me and my "pharmaceutical recommendations".

Thank you for your response, it’s nice.

I didn't really choose to respond to all of this because I don't disagree.
But just understand that benzodiazepines and other products give me relief that no therapy or supplement ever could.

Maybe one day I'll explain certain things to you via PM if we talk about it again, and maybe you'll understand.

Ok, you do you. Just trying to spread awareness, obviously there are things i'm not aware of also, so I try not to be so stuck in my beliefs where I get paradigm locked. This subject is one of my passions and i realize that I can get carried away with my objections and not seeing things for what they are, so I try and not get too emotional about it especially by infringing on people's freedom of choice in the matter.
