Wouldn't Grounding Your Goals In Low-conscious Motivations Be Quite Powerful?

10 posts in this topic

'I'm going to the gym 3 times a week because I want to get more sex.'

If I spouted this here, I would guess that the kinds of responses I would get would be; 'That's superficial', 'How low-conscious?!', 'You need deeper motivations than that' etc.

I'm not saying this is my goal or motivation, but I have some motivation issues at times and something struck me about this kind of motivation.

Through science we know that our brains have evolved over millions of years as basically animals. We are carrying around these animalistic brains, that have few modes, such as reproduction, survival, hunting, and what not. Well mostly it's just survival.

This is where most of our resistance comes from. I'm not sure, but i'm guessing we have qualms about things like standing up and talking to people, because back in the day, if we look stupid or embarrass ourselves, we fear being kicked out of the tribe, meaning we're all alone and unlikely to survive. We fear rejection from the other sex because deep down, it's an opportunity to pass on our genes, there's a lot at stake. My theory is that when we exercise our brain goes FUCK YEAH and releases all those positive endorphins because our caveman ancestors were so used to constant exercise.

Of course we've developed this new, human brain over thousands of years, that is rapidly expanding, but if we don't please the animal brain to some extent, we're just going to be depressed and go mad.

So negotiating this seemingly shallow motivation, is surely a great tool. Maybe it's much deeper than we thing. It sounds stupid to say I want muscles to have more sex, but that's a motivation developed over SUCH a long time. The strongest man (talking as a male) got the most chances to reproduce, and the women were more likely to survive with them.

My question;

Is it good to tap into the 'superficial', 'animalistic' motivations, for success in what it is you want to achieve?

@BeginnerActualizer Isn't any positive motivation useful?

Also, I think if you look into the original intended writing of "survival of the "fittest"', you will be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck with the sex.

@Nahm Haha just an example dude!

Another example could be; 'I want to learn martial arts to defend myself against attack'.

Due to it's primal roots, it's quite basic but powerful I think.

That's just delusion on top of delusion because going to gym has nothing to do with you getting more sex.

The reason you go to the gym is because you feel incomplete.

Or maybe you just care about being healthy. I know, I know... healthiness? What a crazy notion!

P.S. You're thinking with the wrong part of your body ;)

Being sexy has a man is just a bonus you get from your workout, but the workout in itself is just to be healthy and gather energy.

Your chocolate and your big arms won't give her any emotional rollercoaster, it's just flesh.

It's an example people.

The point of what i'm saying, is that if you ground your motivations in the animalistic survival/reproduction part of the mind, wouldn't it be powerful, as a large part of who we are come from those millions of years of evolution?

IMO manipulating the tools you have is definitely very powerful

I suppose the idea is to transcend the illusions so before then you're risking making yourself unconscious again

but changing patterns takes time so it's good to not be neurotic about avoiding unwanted things.

I'm doing a certain thing and in the surface level it appears that it is low-conscious but really I'm just doing it because there's no reason not to. it isn't about the low-conscious rewards... even tho it is... it's hard to explain. I am no longer driven by them, and freely choose to do the action without any need or neurosis. but really there was no better way to find that freedom that to keep "going to the gym for sex" as the example goes.

it's funny that you need it to be an example! what's so important about not having that reason? any shame or moralization is created by the individual mind :) it's really OK to just let people make their false assumptions. gotta be honest tho it's harder to do than to say...

@BeginnerActualizer It's similar to the loa i think. Excercise, feel better. Feel better, attitude is better. Attitude is better, socialization is better. Socialization is better, opportunities are great. When opportunities are great, well, sky's the limit.

That "low" motivator is a part of the "high" actualization.

Or one could simply be tryin to get some.

Always uncertainty in the end.

Eye of the beholder.
