Netanyahu is a serious and thoughtful leader.

Trying to destroy Israeli democracy and court independence  seems very thoughtful to me...

I'm sorry to say that history will remember this man as the one who leads this genocidal intent/acts from IDF onto Palestinians today. I'll grant that Netanyahu is hard working and smart, and sacrifices his life for his country but this event will be a stain in his rhyme book. I'm sure there were good parts to Donald Trump too, but again these men are more evil than good, you know? So, best not to venerate one man too much, and balance his good parts with his evil parts, remind yourself they're human animals who are capable of evil here and there.

What would you do if you were in his shoes?

If genocide was the case, the people in Gaza wouldn’t exist and guess what? They are.

Ah, you're thinking of the mass killing part of genocide, but genocide also includes deaths and killings of armed combatants and civilians alike, population displacement of natives, destruction of civilian homes, restriction of resources to said population like money, food, water, and finally genocidal intent and dehumanizing language like how Palestinians are 'animals', as Netanyahu here said the Amalek word 4 times in his footages addressing IDF and Israel, and other ministers of his administration also said. Enough evidence there to show from IDF propaganda to the media for genocidal intent, which the ICJ and South African case is about. See, it's false to reduce genocide as mass killing only, but then to discount the other 4 parts to make up genocide as you're doing here.

Just because you win doesn’t mean you’re good and vice versa.
Luck is a big factor in life and need to be considered as well.

The left in the US are off the rails these days and the attack by Hamas was inevitable considering Israel is surrounded by enemies..

The attacked happened because Netanyahu refused to deal with Hamas politically and remove the blockade, killed thousands of Gazans in the last war, empowered Hamas with money transfers, killed hundreds of peaceful protestors, allowed the burning of a mosque, removed the IDF from the Gaza perimeter to help settlers harass those in the West Bank, ignored multiple warnings Hamas was plotting a breakout, and was trying to normalize relations with the Middle East without allowing the Palestinians any path to freedom. The only reason it was inevitable was because of Israel’s policies. If they were different, it would have been entirely avoidable.

It’s not though, he’s right. How is Netanyahu thoughtful when he’s tactically failed in every way. Politically he’s extremely unpopular. Legally he’s at risk of jail time. Governmentally he failed to avert the biggest attack on Israel’s history and the response caused the largest loss in IDF and Israel’s economy in a long time. His only ally was the US Gov and reports show Biden has been getting frustrated with him and Biden’s likely replacement, Trump, is openly criticizing him. He’s screwed himself over.

No doubt Bibi is charismatic. This old clip of him when he was young shows this very well - strong voice, coherent and eloquent, well dressed, cares a lot for his nation - oozing charisma. But look at him today and he has dead eyes compared to the seemingly caring ones he had when younger. He’s still passionate, but passionate about his own success. Politics and the dirtiness of it has consumed him.

It’s possible to appreciate competence without appreciating someone’s level of consciousness. Similar to sports athletes - you can appreciate the skillset and competence on display without liking their politics, personality or how they are in their personal lives - athletes who cheat or neglect family for example.

You can appreciate someone’s skillset of leadership which has facets of cunning, shrewdness and manipulation - but not appreciate where exactly they’re leading to or how they go about it. Leadership is power - and power is its own allure and intoxication regardless of its morality.

Just like the charismatic player who breaks hearts, political leaders lacking morality but possessing the skillset to lead often screw people over on their way to the top building a army of enemies behind them that could one day conspire their downfall. Often, these types of leaders will never know peace - their handshake means nothing and the cost of material success is that they sold their soul.

The best and worst of men are cunning, shrewd and possess manipulative abilities - it’s how it’s used and to what end that matters. Do they use them benevolently or let it consume them like a malignant cancer.

It's funny. I like Netanyahu as a person but not his policies.

There's a theory for that, he is an ENTJ and you're an INTP I think? That's your MBTI golden pair right there x D *jk*

There can be some truth to that though. They make great politicians, are very intelligent, hardworking and never succumb to external pressure. Their only priority is themselves and their clan. Other than that, they will have zero empathy or care for. Being master manipulators, their charm and manipulation makes people think they can possess the ability to care for other things/beings but in reality they don't. They also manipulate people to make them think they're democratic, but in reality they prefer dictatorships.

For Netanyahu, he has never believed in the 2 state solution because he genuinely thinks pushing Palestinians out is the only method to keep Israelis safe, he has been manipulating everyone to make them think otherwise, while in reality he's been doing nothing but keep expanding the illegal settlements. His problem is that he doesn't realize the counterintuitive reality that by doing so, he will achieve nothing but the opposite of safety for Israelis.

@zazen totally agree.

Who is to blame in that?

🌲 You can rarely pretend to give an effective advice to someone just from the fact that you cannot see the unique inner logic behind his actions, no matter how obvious you will mistakenly think the answer is. If you really want to help and not to harm, encourage him to trust more his own logic.

Hamas leaders and Benjamin Netanyahu agrees with each other more than the participants of this thread.

Both rejects the two state solution. I guess you can take off some time to criticize hamas as well.

That was a very terrible massacre indeed, but it should be placed in context that it was during the Lebanese civil war and that particular massacre was a response to Karantina massacre that started the chain of violence in which 1500 Muslims were killed by right-wing Christian militias.

Germany is 10x larger than Israel yet I did not see Merkel face jail for corruption, trying to undermine democracy or fill her cabinet with right wing fanatics etc.

Israel is a first world country and you claim it to be a democracy.

Therefore, we hold it on same standards as we hold the US or Germany.

You can make the argument about Putin since Russia is in a different level of development but what excuse you have for Israel to behave any less democratically or ethically than USAA/Germany, ESPECIALLY when it comes to internal affairs?

You seem a bit biased here towards BiBI.

You may find him interesting or charismatic sure, that is subjective taste.

Many also find Trump entertaining to watch.

But as a political he is bad for Israel.

If he was good, the people would not be so mad at him, even before the attack.
