Leo any value in studying the Greek philosophers?

I feel that even though you hold these as a waste of time we can still learn valuable stuff from them. They talk about a HUGE variety of things from the brief glimpses I've had in their books and I was just wondering if the breadth and subsequent quality of that information was worth studying them.

P.S. Done no spiritual work. Newbie knowledge level

Some value. Not too much.

Some of the early greeks were powerful thinkers, much more so than the average person of today. Outlines of Phyrrhonism is an excellent book on the principle of openness. Study it.

Plotinus is the best philosopher of that era.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

"It is from my open heart that I will mirror you, and reflect back to you all that you are:

As a being of love, of energy,

of passion, and truth."

Holy shit, he is good, just reading about him.

He must have taken some ancient shrooms.

Stoicism is a concept you can learn.

There is a book about some Greek Philosophy called the Obstacle Is The Way by Ryan Holiday. It's pretty good.

You are a selfless LACK OF APPEARANCE, that CONSTRUCTS AN APPEARANCE. But that appearance can disappear and reappear and we call that change, we call it time, we call it space, we call it distance, we call distinctness, we call it other. But notice...this appearance, is a SELF. A SELF IS A CONSTRUCTION!!!

So if you want to know the TRUTH OF THE CONSTRUCTION. Just deconstruct the construction!!!! No point in playing these mind games!!! No point in creating needless complexity!!! The truth of what you are is a BLANK!!!! A selfless awareness....then that means there is NO OTHER, and everything you have ever perceived was JUST AN APPEARANCE, A MIRAGE, AN ILLUSION, IMAGINARY.

Everything that appears....appears out of a lack of appearance/void/no-thing, non-sense (can't be sensed because there is nothing to sense). That is what you are, and what arises...is made of that. So nonexistence, arises/creates existence. And thus everything is solved.

Ryan Holiday is a kid. I would recommend his other book about media manipulation (he worked in media marketing) for young guys, but that’s it. His philosopy is shit.

There is a very cool copy of Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations with intro by a greek researcher of the ancient times. That’s the best version of this book you can read.

@UnbornTao it's incredibly impressive too. With the corruption and lack of development at that time and still those geniuses existed? Christ

Yes.

On the other hand, to play devil's advocate, they invented democracy, and the argument could be made that our current society has declined in many ways. But I agree overall.
