Expose yourself to difficult experiences!

Believe it or not.. but the last thing I do before going to bed (besides masturbating lol) is watching the most terrifying horror movies ..yup I kid you not ..that's indeed what I do . Not caring if that is gonna generate nightmares when I sleep .

I wake up every morning and take a freezing cold shower then I go for a 30 minutes run . Without eating breakfast.

I stay up late at night smoking cigarettes ? like there is no tomorrow...not caring if I'm damaging my lungs and initiating cancer etc .

Why I do all this stuff ? Simply because I've discovered the counterintuitive nature of life . Its a tricky bitch . When you do stuff thats challenging and painful and conquer them qnd come out the other end safe ..that's gonna grow you .

This is important specifically for men who are trying to get in touch with their masculinity.  Do painful shit . Get the hell out of your comfort zone and face the inner demons and fucking kill those motherfuckers ;)

my mind is gone to a better place.  I'm elevated ..going out of space . And I'm gone .

This is just so unnecessary.

Of course. And feel free to lock this thread if you don't  want your forum being associated with negative reckless behaviour.

I don't know if this advice will be useful to any of you.

But for example in my case..I obsess over who I think about las..before going to sleep. And if I think about someone I don't like..I obsess that I'll be stuck with them in my mind. But it's all my mind playing games on me.

So guess what? I'm starting to deliberately think about people I don't like and tell myself "to hell with it". And when I wake up I don't even remember anything .

so always remember YOU HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR.

Then quit smoking.

On a serious note, the right kinds of stress, in the right doses, will make you more resilient, in the sense that it will increase your general functioning and health. Smoking is not that (and I've actually thought about this point specifically). As far as I'm aware, the only thing that smoking makes you more resilient against is the pharmacological effects of smoking itself (i.e. nicotine and other substances in tobacco), through downregulation and dependence.

So you'll need to smoke more for the same effect, which isn't actually a good thing if you think about it. Maybe you'll also be more resilient towards certain harsh sensations in the throat and lungs through dulling of the sensory systems. But again, these are not "good" or useful types of resilience. The only thing that I can think of that is worse is than smoking is radioactive radiation, because I'm not sure if you can adapt to it in any way (or if you can, it will most likely be of the useless kind).

Actually, you'll be more resistant to certain cholinergic chemical weapons if you're a smoker. That's one benefit of smoking.

I don't think damage equates resilience. Damage is just damage. And even if it does create resilience, is it worth it?

Difficult experiences should happen of their own volition. Not something like injecting a heroin overdose.

My name is Victoria.

Activating a receptor system is not inherently damaging. That is not really why smoking is damaging (nicotine is actually quite an innocuous substance on its own). Smoking is mainly damaging because you're inhaling burnt vegetable matter with hundreds of carcinogenic chemicals in it. Smoking any type of plant is most likely not good for you.

As I said, it's not the good type of resilience. You can define resilience in the broadest sense as the ability to withstand some stimuli. You can also define it in a narrow sense like I did in the beginning of my previous post by tying it to increased general functioning and health. If you smoke regularly, you can handle more of the psychoactive effects of smoking, meaning you'll be more resilient in the broadest sense, but not in the narrow sense in this case.

@Carl-Richard oh Don Carl is back finally commenting on my thread? Missed you bro .:)

But ..sorry try again later . Smoking takes me to heaven with each exhale and enhale. I'm not quitting it . Who cares if I get cancer ? We all gonna die at the end . So fuck it .

You see ? That's the stoic attitude that I'm trying to adapt to recently.

Some parts seem good like the cold shower and the walk.

However, wouldn't be the most tough thing for you to stop agitating yourself and live with a few minutes silence or quit smoking?

Might be fun as long as you are young but in 10 or 20 years this might get you in trouble.

I don't do any substances because I like the mental fortitude that comes with extreme stability. How is that for stoicism?

Your take on stoicism sounds more like "YOLO" than anything the Ancient Greeks would've come up with :P

Quote

YOLO

[ yoh-loh ]

interjection

1. You only live once! (used especially to rationalize impulsive or reckless behavior):

"I bought those expensive shoes I've been eying—YOLO!"

verb (used without object)

2. to engage in impulsive or reckless behavior with this sort of rationalization:

"We’ve been YOLOing all night."

Masochism is not stoicism.

At this point I think you are displaying clear signs of repressed depression at this point.

You are a selfless LACK OF APPEARANCE, that CONSTRUCTS AN APPEARANCE. But that appearance can disappear and reappear and we call that change, we call it time, we call it space, we call it distance, we call distinctness, we call it other. But notice...this appearance, is a SELF. A SELF IS A CONSTRUCTION!!!

So if you want to know the TRUTH OF THE CONSTRUCTION. Just deconstruct the construction!!!! No point in playing these mind games!!! No point in creating needless complexity!!! The truth of what you are is a BLANK!!!! A selfless awareness....then that means there is NO OTHER, and everything you have ever perceived was JUST AN APPEARANCE, A MIRAGE, AN ILLUSION, IMAGINARY.

Everything that appears....appears out of a lack of appearance/void/no-thing, non-sense (can't be sensed because there is nothing to sense). That is what you are, and what arises...is made of that. So nonexistence, arises/creates existence. And thus everything is solved.

Its not YOLO. Its something more radical than that .

First ..I don't know if this life is the only life I will ever live . That seems highly unlikely.

I believe that after I die ..I will be born again . I'm eternal. Isn't that how I came into existence?  I just  magically ?  popped out of nowhere?  What makes you think it won't happen again?

Secondly..I'm not saying go destroy your life .I'm saying grow some balls between your legs and do extreme shit .it's gonna make you immune to fear .

@Razard86 how r u bro ? U good ?

It is .

Like when they say there is a fine line between awakening and insanity.  NO! There is no line. Awakening is gonna definitely make you lose every last brain cell that you have lf according to Leo's definition that awakening is solipsism.

Likewise..masochism is just half assed stoicism.
