Is western society falling?

24 posts in this topic

I’m not a conservative, and 9/10 I would disagree with this Victor Davis Hansen, but with the extreme progressive and stage green policies in many of our cities, Victor makes a good point about how American society is on the down fall. Now obviously he is biased, always in favor of the conservative point of view, but I think as people who want to live in a safe society, the breakdown of order and of basic rule of law affects all of us. If you support these hyper liberal policies in some of our cities, ask yourself this: are you really okay with walking over homeless people with your children? Are you okay with being a possible victim of robbery? And not getting justice? We need to stop worrying about this culture war shit, and see that things are going bad right under our noses!

Nothing has made America fall more than the conservative movement of the last 40 years.

It's not the homeless you should be worried about, but leaders like Gingrich, Bush, Cheney, Trump, Matt Gaetz, Margery Taylor Green, Lauren Boebert, etc.

Do you think the right-wing megadonors are more of a threat to our country than the MAGA Republicans are?

I don't see them as different. It's all the same disease.

How do you explain Florida and Texas being America's most successful states currently?

Tell that to somebody from San Fransisco

By who's measure?

All states with large populations are successful. California is the most successful state by economics. California has become so successful no one can afford to live there any more.

Relative to the problems caused by Republicans it's a drop in the bucket. And Republicans are the kings of creating income inequality.

@Leo Gura Oke, I see your point. But how is the American people going to see what you see, if they see near-apocalyptic homelessness in San Fransico while Texas and Florida are doing well?

They will say: Sure, some of the Republicans are "stupid and bad". But the Democrats have the far left, who in their eyes seem to hate America. Which is a bigger evil.

I agree that homelessness in California is a problem.

However, blaming that simple-mindedly on Democrats is deeply disingenuous. The cost of living in California is very high precisely because it's such a desirable place to live, with the best weather in the country.

Texas also has homelessness problems. And if your solution to homelessness is just to relocate them out of view, that doesn't solve much. All the conservatives want to do about homelessness is to arrest or deport the homeless. So to portray right-wingers as caring to solve homelessness is a sick joke.

That's exactly the appeal of the Republicans. If you're a business or homeowner, you're primary concern is to get the homeless people away from your store entrance or your front yard where your children play. So a crude approach is applauded in this instance regardless of "heart" or "long-term sustainability".

What have these three done that is worse than trade deals like NAFTA which destroyed manufacturing in America and caused mass unemployment resulting in crime and suicides, allowing pharmaceutical companies to recklessly spread dangerous drugs causing the opioid epidemic killing nearly 700,000 and causing mass drug addiction, installing a welfare state that caused a rise in single parenthood to the point where almost half of kids born in the USA don’t have two parents and are much more likely to grow up to commit crimes and be homeless as a result, and the Iraq and Afghanistan war which massacred millions and caused a huge rise in terrorism across the world? All of these were caused by the combined efforts of republicans and democrats well before they were in power.

That's a cruel and short-sighted way of handling homelessness.

Wait to you see how many angry homeless people there would be in the country if enough republicans in charge just kept sweeping the homelessness problem under the rug without really addressing the root cause of it. It would be like what happened during the Gilded Age or the Great Depression.

Western society is suffering some backlash and certainly a deceleration of development due to rightwingers, but they will probably get over that in a fair time, these fluctuations are normal throughout history.

But there are considerable risks as we are seeing with Trump, attempting to hold power even after losing elections, and a lot of people and the Republican Party still supporting him after that. Other Western countries in Europe have also similar problems.

I wouldn't say democrats specifically, but an uber stage green society is not the way, as seen by whats happening in our big cities.

How come every civilization throughout history has fallen?

I'm extracting juicy insights from the series Foundation on this matter. Asimov was a smart fellowñ.
