I'm having a hard time approaching

I live in a college town and I find it hard to strike up a conversation with college girls.

I have been laughed at several times and people have called the police on me.

This just traumatizes me from even approaching.

Can you give some more context or backstory. I know from experience that people don’t just randomly scream, pull guns, or call the police. 
 

I approached thousands of people at my sales job and only had the cops called once.

I was doing my best to be as calibrated as possible. Just experimenting around. I try to be as kind when I approach give basic compliments or statements. Try to add positive energy, but time and time again I have noticed that they don't seem to respond well to that. Heck I even tried giving a girl a negative compliment and she responded better to that than an actually compliment.
