What's the water made of?

"The sun’s bright rays gave life to the dim reflection of my face in the water flowing past me. Suddenly, I came back to my senses. I was sitting in what looked like the banks of the Ganga River. I had completely forgotten. I had just been taught, by a Sadhu, the secret key to unlock the mystery of the Self. The problem? I couldn’t remember the teaching.“What did the Sadhu say?” I asked myself while looking at the river. But I didn’t know.

As I kept looking at my reflection, I noticed something strange. It was changing.“I am dreaming!” I suddenly realized. Eureka. I looked once again at the reflection and saw it change and continue changing. This dream river was showing me the flow of life—the constant change in the river of consciousness. From one body to another, from one life to another, from one identity to another, from a story to another, from a face to another, so we flow through the universal river of life. But what are we in the midst of all of these reflections?

At that moment, instead of looking at the transmuting reflection, I looked at what it was made of: water. That reflection was just an illusion; the realness behind it was actually water. Beautiful, moving water. I took a long breath, gazed at the water, and pondered, “What’s the realness behind this water?”I looked at what that water was made of: mental content. This was all my mind—the sun’s warm rays, the flowing water, my reflection. I was dreaming, after all. What if I look at my mind now to see what it’s made of? I woke up."

"Say to the sheep in your secrecy when you intend to slaughter it, Today you are slaughtered and tomorrow I am.
Both of us will be consumed.

My blood and your blood, my suffering and yours is the essence that nourishes the tree of existence.'"

That right there is the rub. As long as you think "X is made out of Y", you need to keep going... until you end up empty handed.
