Would female hookers be less psychologically damaged if prostitution was legalized?

75 posts in this topic

Legalizing prostitution everywhere would make sex work a lot safer for every woman who does it. So, would that significant reduce the negative psychological impact they have from being a prostitute?

No.

But it might make them a bit safer physically because illegal activity attracts the scummiest, most dangerous people.

You say it wouldn't be good enough because legal prostitution would still make the women feel violated or used as a sex toy?

What about porn? Is that really no better for women in the industry?

Women in porn are psychologically damaged to begin with. No healthy woman would go into porn.

Ok, so this is coming from first-hand experience. You have to understand that prostitution can be done in many different ways. All walks of life. All kinds. It is a very wide field. You can have someone who just practices domination who is a Mistress and deals only with submissive men and practice BDSM in a secluded location. Works in a controlled brothel where the men are screened and the girls protected. Work the streets or in hotels or casinos.

Prostitutes can be in regular clothes and still be working undercover. They can be renegade (no pimps) or with pimps. They can be online on internet sites or work for escort services. Girls can even work in adult book stores and work inside a booth where they have mirrors and telephones and never have to have contact. I mean the list goes on. I'm not speaking about sex-trafficking but girls who choose this willingly. You have to understand a lot of these girls are not psychologically damaged. They treat it as a job to make money and move on with their lives. You have anywhere between high-priced to down right lowest of the low. Clients range from all walks of life.

When asking these kinds of questions, you have to be specific because it varies. I say the street walkers have it the worst when it comes to safety for obvious reasons. A lot of people on this Forum are psychologically damaged and aren't prostitutes. If you go to the psyche ward in insane asylums most people there aren't or have never been prostitutes. A lot of women who have never been prostitutes have mental illnesses. I'm not negating the fact that a lot of prostitutes have mental issues but so do a lot of other people.

There are millions of prostitutes. You'll only see stories about the ones with psychological problems from working in the field because the ones who don't, don't make for juicy stories.

That being said, this is not to say it's not a dangerous job and there aren't any risks involved and the chances for developing psychological problems aren't there, but so are a lot of other unrelated jobs and different life circumstances.

Legalizing it won't make them less or more psychologically damaged. Psychological damage can come from personal experience with the job that doesn't have anything to do with legalization because most aren't traumatized because it is illegal, but from direct personal experience. I have been doing this kind of work for a long time and I've come across more mentally unstable people outside of this field than within it. A lot of the men are the ones with the psychological problems. You'd be surprised how many businessmen and men of status who are alcoholics or drug users. They just know how to hide it from their peers and co-workers. A lot trusts us with their problems and feel safe to not be judged. When there are conventions, and business meetings I'm shocked at how these people can behave sometimes when they get loose. The corporate world is more screwed than you can ever imagine. Even police conventions, they all drink, a lot. I can give you so many stories.

So don't put too much emphasis on psychologically damaged prostitutes, they exist, but not anymore than the regular members of society, they're just not being reported and showcased in documentaries and on tv or social media.

Why not? As long as the women working on set are not hurt in anyway and are getting well, then why wouldn't some healthy women not mind doing it as just a job?

Pornography is a little but different. Personally, I wouldn't do porn. Nobody wants to watch sexless porn, unless it's fetishes like ball busting. Seriously, look it up on pornhub. There's such a thing. Guys getting their balls kicked and loving it. Pays well too. They are the ones psychologically damaged, IMO. Some people will say that's taking advantage of but I beg to differ.

Yes

Oh wow. I've never talked to one before.

How long did you do it for and did you get attached to any of the guys you had sex with?

I'm still a working girl. This work doesn't always entail sexual intercourse. I do this work without that and no I never got attached. When I was a stripper years ago I did, and we got married, but it never lasted, only for 4yrs and I did quit stripping for that period.

Oh, so are you more like an escort or a call girl who just goes out on dates and nothing more?

How objectified have you ever felt as a working girl?

The guy you married must've had good game to be able to make you his girlfriend then wife.

I assume a lot of guys try to date/marry the prostitutes they get their services of, was that common with you?

I feel more objectified indirectly on this forum when I see you guys giving women numbers and calling women body counts and labelling women as catches and calling the transaction closed after you scored. That's objectify. Not saying anything wrong with it or you are personally objectifying me, but just understand for me, in this work I get more respect from men than I see how regular men talking about girls. Guys don't usually respect women who give it up for free on a regular basis and are an easy catch in their personal lives.

Once in awhile I do get a jerk, but for the most part I'm treated respectfully. I've even been told that they respect us more than girls who just give it up easily. Not saying I'm not objectifying my own body and that I'm any special than girls who don't do this but, in answer to your question, women get objectified regardless of this work not because of it.

It wasn't about game with him, he asked me out to dinner and I accepted and the rest is history. He was funny, tho.

Well, I was a stripper at the time I got married. Guys who go to strip clubs are usually of a different kind than those that sees girls one on one. Stripper guys are usually single or have Shaky unstable relationships, while most guys that see working girls are usually married or in long-term relationships I'm generalizing. There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to the adult industry. It's not what you usually think. A lot of these guys are not lonely, old bald men. A lot are taken, I find that if a guy doesn't have neither a gf nor wife, he looks for that first, then go see strippers or hookers. Very few of these men are single.

But the relationships of these men with their wifes/ gfs usually are pretty fucked up ? I read once that a lot of guys go after prostitutes to satiate their fetishs that they, for some reason, can't get from their wifes/ gfs, Is it true?  How common are guys with super weird fetishs ?

Sorry if 'm being invasive.

No it's fine. Talking about my personal life with intimate lovers and personal relationships is different to me than just talking about work. Yes, most of their wives won't do certain things, so they come to us. Fetishes are big for that but not always. Some just like to explore or their wives are much older etc. I don't believe most of their relationships are fucked up, it's just some men's nature to fool around regardless. But you have to consider the vast amount of players on both sides, I can speak about myself personally, because the causes vary. My clientele is mostly business/corporate/blue collar men. Once in a blue moon, couples. And they are very respectful and cooperative.

The main reason why I speak about this so openly is to denounce the typical stigma related to this kind of work and to show how it can vary from individual to individual, along with the fact that I'm not ashamed of what I do. I would be more ashamed if I was going around being with men for no reason and just sleeping around for the hell of it.  And I don't care what anyone thinks when it comes to that aspect. They can say why don't I just get a bf, but that is not the issue here. Those are two different things.

OK. I understand, already happened any cases of men getting obsessed over you? That you had to block on social media for example?
