Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

6 posts in this topic

Hello Actualized community people, hope you guys are doing well. I'm writing this post to seek some simple deep meaning of the lines from the Prayer of  Saint Francis of Assisi, so here it is...

" O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek...
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love; "

what's the meaning of this statement? Can anybody please translate it into simple understandable English (layman's language), especially the last 3 lines...

Thank you ??

The basic meaning is: Help me to be selfless instead of selfish, to give rather than to take.

As to translating it into simple English... I'll be damned if I know how you could possibly make it any simpler than it already is. ;)

@Bazooka Jesus what's the meaning of "to be loved" and "to love"...

"To be loved" means the way I want to be loved from others.

And "to love" means the way I love others.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Lol I went to Catholic High school and we had to say this prayer every morning. Its already pretty simple. Instead of focusing on trying to get consolation from other, console others. Instead of trying to get others to understand you, try to understand others better. Instead of trying to get others to love you, try to love others more.

^^^ This. Its showing how by loving and understanding others more, you will in turn be loved and understood more
