Private Parking Lots and Predatory Towing Business

11 posts in this topic

I just experienced this today, I parked at a familiar parking lot that ive been parking in for over 20 years, never have i gotten a ticket, today i had to drive my gf to the clinic and that parking lot is right there, it was nearly completely empty. I left for 15 minutes and got a 70$ ticket.

Looking into it seems private parking tickets is a billion dollar industry.

Its very common to have a hospital or clinic right near a private parking lot that if you park there and go the the hospital they immediately give you a ticket, the second you leave the parking lot.

The only long term solution is to move away from car centric culture as a whole.

It's a structural problem within canada/us.

The only long term solution is to make enough money to not have to freak out over some stupid parking ticket.

Better yet, set up your own private parking company.

These types of companies are the most genius.

99% of people are too busy to sue you for a 70$ fine anyways and those who do, you just offer to drop the fine.

Many will just not pay and you can not really do anything about that, because you know your business is shady — so, you just set up a debt collection business and scare people into paying.

Even if there is some social justice warrior that takes you all the way to court (that is, if you actually do something legitimately criminal, which odds are you aren’t), you as a person will walk away from this undamaged, your company will pay a fine and worst case you can just trash the company and create another one.

I know people that have become multimillionaires doing something similiar to this.

Just a quick lesson in political realism, dont be mad.

Sure. But you might still get your car toed to some dump yard, stuck in traffic and struggle to find parking spaces.

Move to a non car centric city.

You cannot buy your way out of anxiety.

You call a taxi to get you where you need to go and your assistant to pick up your car.

Anxiety = gone.

Closer to my point. Using taxis instead of owning a car is a step away from car centric culture.

But that's doesn't need a lot of money. That's way cheaper than owning a car.

If I were to drive with a taxi to work (6km per drive) and back, I would pay 50€ a day (I’ve tested this).

That‘s > 1000€ a month (excluding all the other occasions on which I might need a ride).

I could lease a Porsche for that price.

Now imagine someone living in the suburbs, having to drive 10/20/50km to work.

They might as well buy a Bugatti.

I just googled what a Bugatti lease costs per month and it’s 56.000€ pahahaha

The point still stands though.

So you got a parking ticket, on the exact parking space you used, and never got a ticket for over 20 years using that same parking lot?

Either very unlucky, or a change in management and they are being more aggressive with tickets. Either way, you got your GF to clinic safe,  which is more important. Hope everything is ok.
