Become Enlightened By Going Insane

5 posts in this topic

this is sort of an embarrassing story to tell but i don't regret it.

so one day i became inspired by a song/video.

i don't know what this song is about but i got a vibe of "FUCK THE WORLD" like i've never heard before in a song so i was inspired to play their album 'Exmilitary' and go run around insane singing along to the lyrics that i did know in public (at a local park). this felt very freeing, my body language changed and everything. it was during a time period where i was testing out solipsism as a philosophy since it went along with my understanding of non-duality, that was in fact the only way i could build up the courage to do this, i had to view these people that i see in public as not real, as figments of my imagination. i wasn't embarrassed immediately afterwords either because when i'd recall the memory i'd go back to a solipsistic way of thinking in order to deal with it. because honestly from a societal point of view it's the epitome of cringe.  but essentially what i was doing was just being completely and utterly free and sort of childlike, like jumping on and over walls and all kinds of stuff. i didn't have as big of a sense of self because i wasn't protecting my "don't embarrass yourself" part of the ego at all. you could still say i was just creating a new "i'm a crazy dude probably on pcp ego" but at least that ego wasn't so complex and restrictive.

my question to you fellow actualizers is do you think this could be a means of realizing enlightenment? sort of the ultimate form of "letting go" but not in a new age way but more like letting go on steroids. i remember shinzen young talking about how he once saw a bum on the street (i think in the US) who seemed to have had his ego beaten out of him through a life of neglect and suffering. shinzen said his body language looked like that of an enlightened being.

i feel like the main thing getting in the way of my personal enlightenment is that i'm too scared to be completely and utterly myself and i know enlightenment will grant me that. the worst/best thing is if that's the case i'm choosing not to be enlightened in every moment of my life. every time i contract in public especially, i feel like being in public may actually be a huge potential for growth since there's so thinking about what others are thinking about me. because of this my ego goes full force into protection mode, so these are the moments i'm most deeply immersed in illusion.

@stevegan928 i think it's good to be an idiot sometimes. Freeing. Post a video here next time. Big opportunity to receive a bunch of comments. And then enhance your realization of - it just simply does not matter what other people think about you.

Become Enlightened By Going Insane

There is a certain similarity between the enlightened person and the madman. The madman has gone through a breakdown but he is out of the mind. The enlightened person has gone beyond the mind; it is a breakthrough. He is also out of the mind but because he has gone beyond mind, he attains to ultimate sanity, to great intelligence, to a clarity, mind cannot even conceive of.

The similarity is that both are out of the mind and the mind can interpret both either as enlightened or as insane. Hence a strange thing has been happening in the East and in the West. There are many enlightened people in the West inside insane asylums because Western psychology does not believe in any breakthrough. For anyone who goes out of the mind, only one interpretation is available: that he has gone mad.

In the East there are many madmen who are worshiped as enlightened because the East interprets going out of the mind always as a breakthrough.

Meher baba in India travelled all over the country to catch hold of all kinds of madmen, because they are just very close to God.

In all the madhouses, anywhere that he heard there was a madman, he would go. He traveled all over India his whole life, searching for mad people.

His disciples asked him, “Why are you wasting your time with mad people when sane people are available to work upon, and they want your time?”

Meher Baba said, “You don’t understand. To bring a sane person out of his sanity is very difficult. But to bring out a madman is very easy because in a way he is already out, but from the back door. He has tasted something of the outside; we have only to show him the right door and say, “Please don’t go out from the wrong door, go from the right door. Being out is perfectly right, but choose the right door.” And Meher Baba turned many mad people into enlightened people.

that's amazing.

but do you think it's possible for someone to become enlightened by consciously going through the back door? going mad with the right intentions.

Going mad with right intentions is not possible , how can you be mad if your intentions are right ?

Only possibility is that so called sane society can think that you are mad because society finds absolute sanity of a Buddha, a Jesus as insanity.

The function of psychoanalysis or psychiatry - or any other therapies used in insane asylums - is not to cure you. It is just to make you normally insane so that you can go back to work, so that you can be again useful to the society, so that the society can again exploit you. They are simply pushing you back within the limit so you can function efficiently.
