why is this shit practiced for thousands of years if it doesn't make people happy ? i mean it doesn't provide people food nor sex nor any biological needs. so it must contribute in some really powerful way to their inner harmony and well being.

What I notice is people actually don't care about religion at all, they care about it's certainity, and hold on to that thought  that's it.

It's like you owning your body or your car, pretty normal stuff.

Religion doesn't need to contribute inner harmony and well being.

Religion is literally you, and you don't  want to fuck with yourself, this is not how to be happy or finding harmony.

Well one pov is that religion was constructed as a reaction to the chaos of stage red. It provided structure and order

Yeah religion creates order and structure.

Without religion, many people would go crazy and running around to try this drug and stuff. When there's nothing to do, people would fight wars or riot against the government or other big companies.

People find religion meaningful for the same reason why you find holiday dinners meaningful, or going to the movies, or the bar, or a party, or the beach, or the mountains, or a wedding, or a funeral: things you do routinely that have a structure to them, that you do with your friends and family, that create a sense of cohesion and connection on multiple levels (socially, spiritually, self-actualization, etc.).

Intrinsic joy is revealed in the marriage of meaning and being.

It provides a relatively safe framework for your mind to operate in, especially for crude minds. Valuable for those coming from Stage Red and needing order, still useful for those who haven't developed their own moral compass and need to be told how to behave. And it's convenient. Find a religion, devote yourself to it, and get yourself a seat next to God in heaven with 72 virgins.

Plus religion still has a lot of wisdom in it, not all of it has been sucked out. AND it's difficult to break loose from the indoctrination. Look at someone like Ben Shapiro: educated, 'intelligent' by most peoples metric, and still believes that if he has a wank he's going to hell.

It depends.

For example, actually adopt for demonstration's sake the belief that God exists. Not only that, but that he is a benevolent being that gently watches over you. Imagine that such a being emits calming energy over you whenever you're receptive.

See how such a belief can alter your experience for the better? And it's only a superficial one. Imagine what it'd be like to actually experience whatever's true. ;)

We tend to prefer making stuff up and believing things rather than acknowledging our existential ignorance. Make of that what you will.
