How to know when we understand something.

11 posts in this topic

Something that I've noticed going through my life really, for the longest time so far is knowing when my mind understands a thing. Also to what degree do I know when I understand that? I've noticed that at times when I would talk that there would be thoughts, and concepts coming out of my mouth that really appeared out of almost nowhere. I know that most of it was from school, they have a way of building it into everyone's minds so that interacting in the world becomes more seamless. In reality, the question becomes about how do we know when we understand something in our conscious awareness? In the back of my mind I can get the sense of when I know something, but the conscious current knowledge of where that takes place seems to be what I'm trying to find. I've realized that there is layers to knowing something we understand, I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on what it means to know we understand something.

You cannot know what's truly true and what's false. Those notions are relative. The only thing that can be known to be completely true is infinity/God. In that sense, all understanding of limited forms such as concepts is simply an increase in resolution of the illusion that is that concept. Understanding in context for a limited form is simply illusion at a higher resolution and clarity. The only true understanding is that of Infinity/God, which is simply infinity witnessing itself at a higher and higher resolution.

Conceptual knowledge is relative, and debatable. Its source is external, and it seeks the external for validation.

Spiritual knowledge is absolute, and beyond dispute. Its source is internal, and being direct it needs no validation.

Just because God loves you doesn't mean it is going to shape the cosmos to suit you. God loves you so much that it will shape you to suit the cosmos.

to know the knower is the only knowing, all other knowing is here today gone tomorrow ... to know is to be, the think you know is not to be

I understand that this is all a damn miracle and an epic mystery into itself.

Go live a beautiful imaginary life without needing to figure out why :)

Embrace LOVE unconditionally. Let yourself be free to explore the beauty that is YOU!

For me understanding with respect to language is to create an elaborate mind map that would explain the thing you are trying to understand.

Now, language is a bunch of letters grouped together to form alphabets. We are defining a group of arbitrary distinctions which can help us build a map that can loosely correlate to the reality. That is what understanding is about. Creating mental models that are reasonably accurate.

Now, these distinctions exist in reality itself. You do not create an extra set of distinctions to play with, when reality itself is the set of distinctions that you are trying to play with. This is the real understanding.

I would like to know how would I understand reality in case language did not exist. Understanding can still exist independent of language. So that would be the memory of reality itself that has interconnections to other workings of reality. The map is the image of the reality in your memory. This is all you have to understand reality outside of language.

Buddhist lover, like what you said, there are many layers to understanding. You have to brush up your knowledge so that you have an even deeper understanding of the materials you are on.

I would even venture on to say that you need clarity on what you want and what others want. I used to be a really weak in sales. I was like one of those people who barely sell anything and if people even buy, they are buying because they really need the product or they are buying out of pity.

It took me years to break away and became more decent at selling. But I was still not ready to make really big sales. My mentality as well as competence or understanding was not there yet. So I need to build even more experiences.

I think when you have true knowledge, you will be able to embody them in day to day activities. You will talk more like a leader and achiever as you move through life.

Go beyond all the mental mind maps and see what happens.

Can you understand something without thinking at all? It is possible, but instead of mental maps you have mental images which aid in your understanding.

Absolutely. But to be honest, once you directly realize what AWAKE is, the idea of there being mental maps and mental images does not compute. Not because you’re confused, but because you would have completely understood what GOD is.
