Confusion With Contemplation

4 posts in this topic

Hi there,

Everytime I try to contemplate on a certain topic my mind comes up with the same type of answer.. In one of Leo's video's he said you can NEVER be certain if something is real or what is Truth. So how can you ever know for sure? I can come up with lots of answers in lots of details but ultimately I don't know if it's really true. So it feels kind of useless to me?

Everytime my mind comes up with: I dont know??

Because my (maybe lazy) mind comes up with a quick answer like that I find it hard to really contemplate deeply.

Is this confusion 'good' or is this my mind trapping / tricking itself ? I don't see how contemplation is going to grow me because I feel like I can easily answer everything this way.

Are more of you having this issue? Help would be appreciated :)

@Daphne Interesting. You might have to give some examples of what you're contemplating and what your 'truth' is. Great progress though. Talking about will help.

Ha awesome question!  I see myself doing this a lot: I pick a thing I want to solve, and force myself to solve it on my own.  Poor choice lol.  Then I cave in and google it, but ask my question verbatim.  Silly, right?  My problems are about as complex as chaos theory, so why would there be a wrote solution?  Then I start to get more creative with my key word searches, or also, I pose my questions to people in fun playful ways.  Then is starts getting a little more fruitful.  Then, if the question persists because I know it goes deeper than a simple conversation, I will forget about it intentionally.  I have a lot of questions that are unanswered in my bank.  In general, one of my favorite things to do is to go to the big library downtown and browse the recently returned racks.  Low and behold, I find lots of really fantastic intellectual droppings and beautiful creations to all those things I had forgotten about.  Then I go and read the one that is calling me the most.

Don't try to find "truths", try to find heuristics. In a world where we can never be certain of positive truths, but only of negative ones (which means you can only falsify something but you can not say it is in a certain way), the human mind always needed heuristics. That why most of our modern literature is trapped. Per Year there are about 600k new books, but only a few are of great quality. Back then, there were really less writings. But consider how many of them we still know (Seneca, Plato, Zhuangzi or even Heraklit, just to name a few) - they all used heuristics.

Don't ask yourself what is really true - you will get an answer that is poisoned with social conditioning. We are not made for seeing the truth for all of us, like we're always told, were meant to discover our  truths in our tribes that are in a line with our values, by this we're giving meaning to life. Meaning is very different from truth.

So maybe change the way you're asking questions to yourself and the way you approach to contemplate. Beginning the journey of discovering (real) own opinions might be one of the greatest in ones lifetime.
