Is AI being overemphasised?

7 posts in this topic

Everyone in my fucking college are blabbering about this stupid GPT thing.

I think AI in general is purported to be greater than it really is. the media is trying to make it out to be like in science fiction movies ..when it is not.
Just tell me if I'm correct . .is it the politics of fear ? Are they trying to make out that "they "or others ( Russians) will have control of our lives potentially leading to our destruction?

I just don't get what the fuss is about . . Computers already have AI search engines.. and search providers already watch everything we do  for advertising purposes.

Surely the police, intelligence agencies and the military will also be using the same AI to collect data. For me it is all about control..we will have to watch everything we say and do.

...and that isn’t any kind of freedom.

my mind is gone to a better place.  I'm elevated ..going out of space . And I'm gone .

Well right now we are not "in the future" yet. But GPT is the first technology that will likely replace traditional search engines, the internet and search was a ground breaking technology that changed the world, so for AI to challenge it is serious business.

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

Calling it a "stupid gpt thing" is kind of weird, when there are abundant examples of really amazing things it can already do, and the technology is still in its infancy. You're also correct that it is nowhere near the realm of science fiction and the people who purport that don't really have any understanding of the underlying technology, so it's easy for them to get caught up in hype I guess.

The term "AI" itself is just a buzzword. It's not actual AI in any remote sense. It's just more advanced versions of standard algorithms we already have, just with larger datasets and more computing power. For some reason that seems really hard for certain people to understand.

GPT, A.I image/music/voice/animation and more generators, and other A.I like these will be the new future which creates new problems and new solutions, so some hype is reasonable. Main issue is it's too overhyped, and may lead to more laziness and reliance on those technologies. For example, nowadays some people use A.I programs to cheat on chess games, therefore lowering the competition and difficulty curb from a some to a many more, and does threaten the point of being a chess player, being in the mode of a chess player and doing and thinking chess, when an A.I program can do better than you? Also, incentivizing like I said laziness because why hard work when an A.I can do 80%? So, human error is what to look out for.

I think the future of AI will be far more mundane than the media would have people believe.

we can't downplay the effects AI will have on society because it's simply unknowable.

. If humans are replaced by AI, who are the corporate administrators going to sell their goods and services to in order to recoup their investment in AI?

I'm sorry, can you give a simpler example? Imma say in that scenario no one? I'm a white girl and am slow and don't know much about finance and economics, so examples around chess or games or other arts would be appreciated.

My main issue is this: is over reliance of A.I technology leading to more laziness and lack of motivation? Again in the chess example, in history A.I programs were not as good as GM level chess players, but after 2-3 years of training, they got good enough that sometimes they even won games against GM level players that have spent 10-15-30 years studying and playing chess. Is this already disruptive of my pursuit if I want to become a great chess player and to others interested in this field? And in humans terms I can't study under 5-3 years of chess to become GM like that quickly, yet the A.I can, so why play chess especially if some people will cheat against me in a chess game?

If AI takes all jobs, who's gonna get wages to spend money to purchase all of the stuff AI is producing?

That's his argument in simpler terms.
