Do you have any addictions?

63 posts in this topic

@Princess Arabia What would  you be addicted to then..MeTube?

If it was the only form of entertainment - yes.

I don’t watch TV, I don’t watch Netflix, I have no Twitter, No Facebook and no Instagram. Am I addicted to social media? No. Am I addicted to YouTube? Yes, because even the most profound content ( Leo, Peter Ralston, etc.) is found on Youtube. But I don’t watch just the “useful” content, I watch the useless stuff too.

Screens and video games. I had to delete my Zelda Tears of the Kingdom save this morning and be done with it.. the game has hundreds of hours of content. Also mindless youtube browsing. I even enjoy some thought provoking stuff, but it's still a time waster. I just found the "PBS Eons" youtube channel that has tons of fascinating science content on it. Sigh.

Don't get me wrong, I love knowing that all the heavier elements came from supernova explosions, but it's still all mind candy.

Reed Timmer is doing his live storm chasing right now. Sigh. Is he going to get cut up by broken glass from hail taking out his windshield again or his partner get his elbow pelted by hail? :P  I saw this one live. He's had two of the best chase videos of his career in the last month, and this is one.

attraction, attachment, addiction = love to have, have to have, sure to have

addiction is turning a want to a need

conversely all needs are addictions

your day doesn't begin til the fix is in ... you make sure you get it no matter what

the one difference is addictions can be dropped

i don't see addictions as bad for myself, if i am addicted i will force myself to take breaks so i can see the effect

i am or have been addicted to everything but i don't mind because i indulge consciously rather than absentmindedly

i give myself permission to do whatever body wants but i stay in awareness as far as able and doing this addictions don't pull so hard

i take away their power and go along for the ride and one day they decline to being an attachment or an attraction and so i can say yes or no

There is nothing wrong with enjoying shit. For example I might go out and get an Italian ice cream for once. That doesn't mean I'm addicted (attached) to it) because if I want I can stop eating it from tomorrow on.

Addiction = INVOLUNTARY attachment

Enjoyment = VOLUNTARY attachment

Hate = resistance

Love = no resistance and no involuntary attachment

Addiction is not something to be proud on while being at the same time a "spiritual person". It is like saying you did some nasty stuff while claiming to be a virgin.

It looks like a mind game.
Soft ice cream is "addictive" in your own definition, you just don't see it because it's such an insignificant, one-time treat that it's only a matter of seconds.
When will it be when your parents, your lover, one of your children will die in your car accident? You are going to suffer and undergo "this" dependence which is only the mark of your Love.
So what, you are going to put yourself in a cave like a yogi waiting for death which anyway we will all bring back to non-duality, to infinity and to the absence of suffering (because this is the essence of your company, even if it is tacit).?

You don't want to be addicted to something (typically a drug) because it will jeopardize your physical, mental and financial integrity.
But this endeavor isn't ascetic in essence, it's purely pragmatic in placing your love in more natural and less dangerous stakes (heartbreak or dieting won't kill you like heroin withdrawal).

So yes I insist, wanting to be attached to nothing is to imply to love nothing.

I could explain more, but I slept badly so I'm lazy lol, I think you'll see where I'm coming from

Addiction = chronic desire = attachment to an external thing = suffering

You can still enjoy stuff without attachment.

Love =/= attachment to external thing because it is internalized

Is this a joke from your country to tell someone that they should talk less or something like that? ??

No that's my genuine advice, eating cucumber helps me with both constipation and overthinking, I'm just sharing what works for me

Surprisingly, both are serotonin excess syndromes, ?

Luckily most of my addictions are in the past. My only addiction right now is drinking wine once a week. Do you have any addictions?

   Maybe pornography and sweets, also wine too.

I don't understand the conversation anymore, I'm not even sure I understood your previous message correctly, lol.
It's magic when a Pakistani and a French try to communicate in English.

You weren't talking about the cucumber?

Well actually, I still find him suspicious.
But in this context its use is precisely relevant, I find. ?

I do not know if it's clear.
