How Can I Overcome Low Self Esteem And Issues Related With It: Insecurity, Self Doubt, Self Criticism, Lack Of Confidence?

9 posts in this topic

I know Leo has suffered with severely low self esteem and those associated issues too: insecurity, caring about what others think, lack of confidence, self criticism, self doubt, self sabotaging behavior, neediness etc. How did you overcome this Leo? How did anyone else overcome this?

How can you overcome insecurity, or feeling insecure? Perhaps you could explain what causes the feelings, why one can feel that way?

Firstly i would look inward. Deal with your past. Find out all the things in the way of you being what you want to be and change it. And gain competence in the areas of life you enjoy.

Thanks for the reply!

How can I overcome insecurity?

What I mean by that is, I feel fear when I think someone is about to find out that there's something wrong with me.

I have insecurities around money. And so I feel insecure when I think that someone might realize that.

Similarly, I have other such insecurities. I think essentially it's a fear of others realizing that I'm inadequate and unworthy.

@Vishal  First Get a sheet of paper. In the middle of the sheet, draw a horizontal line that splits the sheet in half width wise. Then, from the horizontal line you just drew, draw a vertical line that halves the paper lengthwise to the bottom of the page. On the top half of the paper, write down everything you dislike about yourself, no matter how insignificant you may think it is. Then, on the left side of the vertical line, jot down the things that you can change.
On the right side, right down the things from above that you can NOT change.

Now...once that is done, hang this up somewhere so that it is the first thing you see when you wake up and the last thing you see when you go to sleep.

ACCEPT THE LIST ON THE RIGHT AS THINGS THAT MAKE YOU UNIQUE AS AN INDIVIDUAL...AND WORK LIKE HELL TO IMPROVE EVERYTHING LISTED ON THE LEFT

@Vishal Read The Six Pillars of Self Esteem by Nathaniel Branden. This book contains just about everything you need to know about self-esteem.

I highly recommend you look into Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, based on what you've written it seems this will help you a lot. There are plenty of good books on CBT.
