Litmus test for basic understanding

Sometimes when you study a new topic, it is very hard to judge if you understood a concept. There is a really easy litmus test for this: if you can give a 5 minute summary speech of the concept you understand it.

   Sure, but I feel like that's an oversimplified, surface level understanding of understanding, there's much more to understanding.
