An Uncommon Life

6 posts in this topic

Here is a quote by Theodore Roosevelt found in the book Live Your Dreams by Les Brown:

I choose not to be a common man. Me, it’s my right to be uncommon if I can. I’ll seek opportunity, not security. I do not wish to be a kept citizen- humbled and dulled by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risk, to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I’ll refuse to live from hand to mouth. I’ll prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence. The thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of Utopia. I will never cower before any master nor bend to any friend. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid, to think and act for myself and face the world boldly and say, ‘This I have done.’

Some people prefer a calm, stable, secure way of living. Others like thrill, challenges, adventure. To each his own. Live life on your own terms. One life, one rule - yours. Create your own path. At least when you die, you will have known you did what you wanted. Live free like a butterfly. Do as you wish. Do not hold back. Set the heart free from strings.

  1. Only ONE path is true. Rest is noise
  2. God is beauty, rest is Ugly

This is true. My only word of caution would be... make sure the desire for safety and security is genuine and does not stem from a place of fear.

For me spirituality is not about enlightenment. For me... meditation, self-inquiry, increased consciousness, a deeper connection with my higher-self... sets me free to live this life more fully.

I wouldn't have the courage to take risks if I was too heavily identified with my ego. I would be too scared to step into the unknown if I feared death.

Spirituality does not pluck you from the dream but it does provide you with the perspective needed to enjoy it.
