Happiness as the Compass

4 posts in this topic

Since Leos Video on Happiness, Ive been doing a Happiness Journal and kept observing my workings of my mind and especially the relation between my activities and my happiness levels very rigorous. What is amazing, is that the way to highest happiness(contentment type happiness) is your highest path. I noticed that my best days are these days where Im reading, doing my meditation, getting my stuff done, doing my exercise + maybe go for a walk with a friend and eat a good dinner consciously and appreciate life. The days where Im not in a good mood is where I procrastinate, scroll through instagram, low energy, maybe eating something unhealthy... Maybe kind of obvious but I got way more conscious about that doing the exercise for the last weeks and got a few more personal insights about what makes me happy and what not.

It is also very useful for getting out of bad habits, compulsive behaviors or addictions you have, just noticing very consciously how it affects your state and noticing that it doesnt lead to overall happiness. You dont judge and feel guilt but understand.

“If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don't even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery--isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you'll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.”

A journal's a nice touch.  I keep one beside me that I use to cultivate anything that makes me feel happy.  It's really the smaller things in life that people would take for granted; brewing a cup of coffee, eating a nice piece of chocolate, saying hello to a friend, receiving a compliment etc.

They say concentration is like a compass. Your compass needle can only point in one direction. Multitasking is bouncing your compass needle in many different directions from one moment to the next. Your inner compass is always speaking — and unless you quiet your mind and concentrate, you won't notice it. It's like your heartbeat.

As a being of love, of energy,

of passion, and truth."
