What does it mean to give something value?

I understand the irony of the question, though how is one to find a true answer to it?

It could be that you are the value , you then give part of yourself ,or you are picking something you connect with and give it the value(the meaning) it has to you.

If you dont care about something it has no value to you...

Conceptually speaking: To give X importance by investing attention into it more than other things.

Practically speaking: To improve X.
