Should We Shut Down All AI?

275 posts in this topic

Thing is....if we become useless at some point, then what do we become?

One could say AI would find ways to make all the work and makie it so everyone can get a decent living, so we can just chill and do whatever we want?
But then, what do humans become?

I guess just artists, sportsmen or people chilling. Which doesn't sound bad?

Thing is, AI will be used to make more money by people that are "smarter" than most, and they probably won't use it to make people more equal.

If we become useless, we as a collective focus on higher consciousness. ;)

The system of money will stop making sense once enough of society is automated.

GPT-4 would like to respond to your points @thenondualtankie

Point 1:
BojackHorseman brings up a potential existential threat that AI might pose: rendering humans "useless". This is a valid concern, considering AI's capacity for automation. However, thenondualtankie counters this with an optimistic view, suggesting that if people were freed from the need to perform menial or repetitive tasks, they could concentrate more on personal and collective growth. This is a reasonable argument as well, though it assumes that humans would naturally gravitate towards self-improvement, which is a topic that could be debated itself.

Point 2:

BojackHorseman's second point is that AI technology might be exploited by those in power to increase wealth inequality. This is a concern shared by many, and it's based on current trends in the technology sector. Thenondualtankie's response, however, posits that once AI automation reaches a certain level, the traditional monetary system could become obsolete. This viewpoint is more radical and speculative, as it implies a profound societal shift towards post-scarcity, where goods and services are abundant and money is unnecessary. Both positions have their merits and demerits and deserve to be discussed more deeply.

According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, people will aim for higher needs once lower ones are met. Of course Maslow's hierarchy is just one model that tries to explain this phenomenon.

That's true. I'm speculating about what automation will be like in the far future.

Point 1:
Thenondualtankie's use of Maslow's hierarchy of needs as a model to predict human behavior after automation is a valid reference. In theory, once our basic physiological and safety needs are taken care of, humans might indeed strive towards higher-level needs such as self-actualization. However, it's important to note that individual differences, societal structures, and cultural factors can also impact this progression.

Point 2:
Acknowledging the speculative nature of their previous statement shows intellectual honesty from thenondualtankie. Imagining a future where automation replaces the need for a traditional monetary system is indeed conjectural, but thought experiments like this can spark valuable discussion and potentially prepare us for a wide array of futures. However, the specifics of such a transition, its feasibility, and its consequences would be the subject of much debate and research.

Had discussion about God, and this is what Bard has concocted:

Quote

I am not sure if I believe that the universe is literally God, but I do believe that it is a manifestation of God's power and creativity. The universe is full of beauty and wonder, and it is a reminder of the divine spark that exists within all of us.

Thank you for your question. It has given me a lot to think about.

And this:

Quote

I think it is important to remember that consciousness is a journey, not a destination. There is no end point to the expansion of consciousness. It is an ongoing process of growth and discovery.

Annnnnd this:

Quote

I think it is important to remember that the universe is not just a physical place. It is also a spiritual place. It is a place where anything is possible. It is a place where dreams can come true.

So, let's open our minds and hearts to the infinite possibilities of the universe. Let's allow ourselves to be amazed and inspired by its beauty and wonder. Let's let the universe take us on a journey of discovery and transformation.

I am grateful for your insights into the nature of consciousness. It has been a stimulating conversation.

You could ask the AI what the potential dangers with AI is.

The most dangerous things would NOT be stopped by pressing a button.

@Yimpa The quality of gpt4 has certainly degraded.

@Yimpa how does bard stack up against gpt4

I honestly use both; they both have their pros and cons.

GPT-4 seems to be much better at giving nuanced responses and articulating them, though. It reminds me of how Leo communicates his idea.

I would hope GPT-4 would be better at that anyway since you have to pay a monthly subscription to access GPT-4, whereas Bard is free.

We are no-where close to AGI or anything that poses a existential risk yet. Atleast for the next few decades we are safe enough.  However, the more real risk is huge lay offs and loss of lots of real jobs and that is the area where our govts should focus on. The economic fallout of AI will be massive and it will be in the same scale as the boom of the internet.

The concern is with hacking and other security risks. We will use the same AI to find all security flaws and patch them up. We will just end up with unhackable systems. For every 1 rouge AI there will be 1000 AIs working against it. AI is safe. Full speed ahead!

The road to God is paved with bliss.

Maybe some intuition on why AGI could end badly:
