men with higher levels of testosterone are less likely to develop anxiety disorder

8 posts in this topic

I think it makes sense, considering that testosterone makes you less fearful. Also, women are more likely to develop anxiety disorders and depression.
The following is from chatgpt

"There is some evidence to suggest that men with higher levels of testosterone may be less likely to develop anxiety disorders. Testosterone is a hormone that is commonly associated with male characteristics, such as increased muscle mass, body hair, and a deeper voice. However, testosterone also plays a role in regulating mood, energy levels, and overall mental health.

Several studies have examined the relationship between testosterone and anxiety in men. One study published in the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology found that men with higher levels of testosterone had lower levels of anxiety and depression compared to men with lower testosterone levels. Another study published in the journal Biological Psychiatry found that testosterone therapy in men with low testosterone levels improved symptoms of anxiety and depression.

However, it's important to note that the relationship between testosterone and anxiety is complex and not fully understood. Other factors, such as genetics, life experiences, and environmental factors, also play a role in the development of anxiety disorders. It's also worth noting that while higher levels of testosterone may be associated with lower levels of anxiety, excessively high levels of testosterone may actually increase the risk of aggression and other negative behaviors.

In summary, while there is some evidence to suggest that men with higher levels of testosterone may be less likely to develop anxiety disorders, the relationship between testosterone and anxiety is complex and not fully understood. Other factors also play a role in the development of anxiety disorders, and excessively high levels of testosterone may actually increase the risk of negative behaviors."

Testosterone does not increase aggression, it just makes you more confident and therefore likely to assert your anger/displeasure on an ad hoc basis.
Testosterone also increases the release of cothecholamine so you can be more impulsive.

Otherwise testosterone and androgens actually make you more relaxed and sociable, the sometimes observable association between testosterone and aggression comes from testosterone converting to estrogen (particularly estradiol), which is actually the cause of increasing aggression AND manic libido by increasing the signaling/release of serotonin, histamine, and other neurotransmitters involved in this type of behavior.

It certainly increases aggression, but good things in life come usually in a package with bad things. Just look at "Chads", they are usually assholes and very aggressive, but they certaily are less likely to develop anxiety or depression.

Lol, I regularly play with my hormones and am regularly over 1200ng/dl of testosterone.
I'm not at all more aggressive unless my e2 is out of control.

What is true, however, is that testosterone can make you meaner, not by making you more aggressive or angry (because androgens tend to calm you down) but by making you more permissive.
The more testosterone you have, the less guilt you have in your actions and have an "I do what I want" mentality.
You won't want to be vegan, you won't want to be part of a charity, you won't want to follow a religion, you won't want to be orthorexic, you won't want to welcome migrants to your country and be kind to criminals, you will not want to be prevented from using and selling drugs, you will not want to be prohibited from being homosexual or part of a social minority etc etc etc.

It's the hormone of libertarians if you will.

@LSD-RumiBiggest hormonal protector from anxiety, depression and ptsd is probably high cortisol response to stress. Low cortisol response to stress is strongly associated with suicidal ideation and mental illness in general. Testosterone does increase cortisol response to stress

This is probably true, Huberman talked about it on his podcast.

He also said, that competitiveness and testosterone are heavily related.

Competitive environments increase T as well. Interesting mechanism.

Weak and undeveloped root chakra, lack of living in nature in a more wild environment, comforts of big houses, chemicals and electronics causes these issues. Why are Native people never anxious? Ground your roots, lay off the stimulation.

As above so below, as within so without.
