How Christianity was radically eliminated from from japan

16 posts in this topic

In the 17th century, Christianity began to spread in Japan, which alarmed the authorities. The religion was seen as a threat to the power of the state, and the authorities used it to control the people. The authorities’ response was very violent to maintain the dominant religion, which was a mixture of Buddhism and some ancient pagan myths. The Portuguese monks and Christian men were the ones who spread this new religion, so the authorities arrested and tortured them in what is known as the “pit” to make them renounce their religion. They were tied with a rope around their body and hung upside down in a pit, and the severe blood pressure caused by hanging upside down produced immense pain. No one could endure this torture except for one religious man who showed an immense amount of patience and love for his religion. He remained hanging in the pit for three days until he passed away. The authorities completely eliminated Christianity except for those who kept their religion hidden from the villagers. The Portuguese monks were afraid to come to this land after that. The rule comes with force and an iron hand, and this has been the case since ancient times until today, and the desire to maintain power produces terrible nightmares.

This incident was portrait by a movie called silence 2016. It is an amzing movie btw.

What if Japan would became all Christian? That's the topic of this alternative history.

Not surprised.

Back in the olden days, there were so many samurais and Japanese men are very opprensive and will slay anyone who is against them.

Japan as a society is still very closed minded in my opinion. Like the ladies have to obey the man. The ladies have to cook and serve the man. Men who are poor have to work very long hours. Kids have to obey lots of rules at home including cleaning the house and throwing rubbish. A very regimental society with not much room for creativity. Not surprised they don't welcome new ideas like Christianity easily.

I thought that many men in Japan in contemporary times have been easily bossed around by their wives or other women.

Jap men are still quite masculine in general.

If you compare with neighbouring countries such as Korea or China, the % of hen-pecked husbands should be much lower in Japan than these countries. Many guys in Korea are metro-sexual. They grow long hairs, wants to look slender and have plastic surgery done on their face to look slimmer. And are easily bossed by women.

   Authoritarianism?

Why is Japan's society close minded to you? What do you have against patriarchy and tradition here?

So, assuming your position here as a lefty, it's okay to condemn Japan's society as close minded, but when your Progressive/socialists friends accuse all conservatives as Nazis, and Marxists/Communists weaponizing post modernism to kill millions of lives, and DemLibertarians encouraging these gender grooming programs and continue to confuse children, why do you get to have the double standard here?

@Danioover9000 Try highlighting it, that's basically what I did.

What do you mean?

“Did you ever say Yes to a single joy? O my friends, then you said Yes to all woe as well. All things are chained and entwined together, all things are in love; if ever you wanted one moment twice, if ever you said: ‘You please me, happiness! Abide, moment!’ then you wanted everything to return!” - Friedrich Nietzsche

Because that isn't the same font and colour that you just typed above. I don't know if you're trolling, or are making low quality post so I got offended by it. I couldn't see what you're writing about how Japan eliminated the Christians.

I can see South Korean men possibly being less masculine in their behavior because a lot of them do have that metrosexual look and vibe that you’re talking about and they live in 1st world country. However, I’ve seen a lot of Japanese men who also look and give off that metrosexual vibe and have been married to bossy women. Plus, Japan is also a 1st world country.

As with men in China and North Korea, I would’ve that those men would actually behave in a more traditional masculine manner than the men in Japan and Southe because of how much more traditional and harsh the societies China and North Korea are than Japan and South Korea. I mean what about Kim Jong-IL of North Korea or Xi Jinping of China? Those men are extremely ruthless and highly authoritarian rulers of their own countries. Almost every citizen of China is scared of defying or questioning the authority of Jinping and CCP in anyways because of how much he and his party rule their country with an iron fist. Same thing with the people of North Korea. Citizens of North Korea have been absolutely terrified by the cruel tyranny of Jong-IL and his elite circle of political elite men who all rule the country.
