The United States is the pioneer in a new mode of dominance: the entrepreneurial one. Why conquer and colonize other countries when you can make them your customers and workers? It is certainly a step forward. but being the pioneer does not mean being the only one. others have taken over from him, and given his disastrous foreign policy, it seems he will be overtaken. America is a treacherous ally and a greedy partner. others are more reliable

America today is still playing its role defined in post World War II reconstruction.  Hence, the inevitable conflict when a rising China insists on its own independence.

The reason you feel this way is because the US is effectively an empire with east Asia and western Europe as it's colonies, amongst others. 

You would have thought the same about the British 100-200 years ago.

Probably, but then I wouldn't have been developped enough had I been born in that era
