The path is narrow, as sharp as the razor's edge, and perilous (dangerous) in the extreme.

 

The idea 'I am God, I am Love'—ever pure and free, having no taint (stain) of worldly desire—is a great concept. If you can choose this trend of thought and follow it vigorously (with effort and dedication), it may help you to rend (tear apart) the veil of maya (illusion), the One concealing itself and appearing as the many, provided Reality wills it.

 

But to live a life of pure detachment (freedom from attachment) from all needs of the body, from all desires and longings of the mind, all your actions and thoughts need to be directed towards Infinity. Always keep alive the sense of discrimination (ability to judge wisely).

 

Reflect thus: 'I feel some joy here, but is it of the abiding (lasting) type called Atmananda (the bliss of the Self)?'

 

There must be keen (sharp and focused) discrimination between that which is fleeting (temporary) and that which is abiding (permanent) forever. Think always about the precept (teaching) that the Guru has given you: 'I am God.' While moving about, working, or resting, always seek refuge (protection and comfort) in That.

 

You must read about matters which will develop both introspection (self-reflection) and insight (deep understanding) into the realities of life; constantly seize opportunities conducive (favorable) to that end. In all your thoughts and outward actions, your sole aim must be to stick to God-Reality steadily (firmly and consistently) at all times.

You will have to accomplish your own work yourself because you have the power and capacity to act. 

In this world of humans it is the play of action that predominates. 

He who is bound is the jiva(individual) and that which is subject to continuous motion is the world. 

If you are after sense objects it lies in their nature to enslave you. But the nature of the Lord's Name is to burn whatever has to be burnt and to melt what has to be melted. 

You are Atmarama, a Rishi. 
The practice that will bring to light your rishihood is potentially present within you. 
Tread the spiritual path, the path to God; 
by treading it Rishihood will gradually be attained. 

God resides within each person - in this there is no differentiation between man or women, no caste distinction. 

Everything is already contained within you but you have to perform some spiritual practice. The inherent power that lies dormant within you must be awakened.

Who is ours? 

only Bhagavan (everpresent living God) is ours. 

 

Always keep this bhava in your mind that whatever is happening is due to God’s will. From now onwards, 

I shall perform only good actions. 

Take such a firm decision. 

This is one thing. 

 

From the point of view of Reality, 

however, 

there is nothing good or bad. 

But as long as you have deha-atma buddhi (identification with the body in ignorance), till then you should never indulge in any wrong action. 

Thinking otherwise is only drishti-bhram (deluded perception). 

 

Bad actions result in suffering. 

One’s drishti should ever be clean. 

If you can understand that all this is the Lord’s play, then nothing at all is bad.

To be attracted means to become transformed. Whenever you feel drawn to anything, be it a person, an object, or an idea, you have to sacrifice something of yourself. In the exact degree that you give up, so will you receive. This is an axiom of life.

 

To gain everything without letting go of anything is never possible for the simple reason that two things cannot at the same time occupy one and the same place. That is to say, without sacrifice nothing can be achieved.

 

The more the heart becomes filled with the love of God, the fainter will grow the appetite for material enjoyments. The moment you become charmed and therefore transformed and inspired by God, true peace and contentment will happen.

One Devotee: Ma, I don’t feel good with anything. 

MA: The fact is that there is nothing to feel good with; because you are verily the form of bliss. How could partial happiness bind you? The taste of bliss in totality is there within you. All of you have the taste of satchidananda within (the ultimate reality which is existence-consciousness-bliss) and are searching for that bliss in the world. Sometimes you think that happiness is in wealth, in dignity and in sons and daughters - likewise bearing in mind one or the other such notion you are wondering around; but none of these things are capable of giving you the bliss of satchidananda. That is why you are not at peace, cannot feel well permanently with anything - MA.

Question: MA, when you exist as the total, do you see us at that moment? 

MA: You see, I don’t express such things to everybody. I am the partial state referred by you but I am not the part. My holistic state referred by you, I am that too but I am not the total; I am neither limitless nor bound by limit. I am both at the same time. If you define me as a part, I am being confined within limitations - again if you say I am the whole there too I am being confined. But I have no limits, no bindings; again, I have all the bondages. That I am eating, sleeping, is my partial state of being and that is how I have limits; again, I don’t need to eat and sleep, that is how I am limitless. Starting from the small flies and insects I am the infinite universe. You are asking me whether I could see you when I am the total; I say, why only you, one who never heard of me, never saw me, in his need I could see him too, I accomplish his demand also - MA.
