Am I Working On Too Many Areas At Once?

6 posts in this topic

I've been working my way through Leo's videos during the last couple of months, picked a few areas to develop myself in, believed in the process and have started to see some results which have been really encouraging for me.  I must admit recently I've started to feel mentally fatigued and have been wondering if I'm overdoing it and working on too many areas at once.   The areas that I've been working on are: reducing time spent worrying what others think of me, positive affirmations, visualisations and attending Toast Masters to increase confidence when presenting,  working on not being a people pleaser, learning to control/process strong emotions, being aware of my reactions and feelings generally in life, being aware of telling myself and others lies vs truth through increasing awareness.  I'd appreciate people's feedback.  Thanks John

Stop.

Put your mind aside for 10 seconds and listen.

Relax and see that life is a process, you will never reach the end!

John.  I doesn't matter what I say.  You already know the answer.   If you are tired, stop.  If you don't have the answer, be ok with not knowing, it will come to you.  You dont have to be everything, just be! Breathe and relax! Enjoy the ride

maybe try simplifying.. alot of the "thingies" your working on have a common thread, try to find that common aspect of all this stuff and focus on that.

when you put your attention on something, other things get lost. like if you..... try to focus on work, gym, wife, kids, friends, hobbies, pets, stamp collecting, netflix, bla bla bla bla. all at the same time.... doesnt work and you get burned out.... so pick wisely. :)

Thanks to those who replied.  I've decided to focus on not being a people pleaser (unfortunately a lifelong pastime of mine) and developing my public speaking ability.  Bronsoval advised 'just be', my boss has said the same thing to me in our 1-1 meetings when I've shared with him what personal development I'm doing outside of work.

@John Fox Graduality is key. Last year I had an existential crisis and I tried to do all at once: Quitting my job, moving abroad, study again, train my mind, improving my social skills... I don't regret the decisions I took, but I definetely lost balance for a few months, and that burned me out. So as these guys say, just take it easy and enjoy the process.
