Is "demise" (my Stage Name) My Ego?

2 posts in this topic

Hello World! My name is Darrick, i'm 27 of Northern California! I've been creating music for 8+ years now! (Rock, hip hop, underground rap, heavy metal)

My first name in the hip hop world was "D-Man". TERRIBLE name :) Hehe.

After being made fun of and not taken seriously at all i decided to amp up the aggression, make better beats, write better lyrics and change my name to Demise! ;)

Why Demise? I want a name that is POWERFUL and goes well with my music which is dark, sometimes ominous, aggressive and the lyrical content is very REAL.

(I don't make songs about money, girls, cars, etc...) The songs i write are about life, hard times, lost loved ones, struggle, addiction & much more.

So after talking to my cousin who makes hip hop too, he said "When i go up on stage i put on a character. You know?" BUT, in my mind i think it's more of an ego instead.

When I go up to perform I become MORE humble and let everyone know life is too short, and let's do what we love NOW!! Sort of like an inspirational speaker ;)

SO... could this be my "ego" or just the artist in me?!?! Plus, at my previous job almost ALL of my co workers just called me Demise instead of my real name. I've been addressed as "Demise" way more than Darrick in the last few years!! Thanks for reading!!!

@Darrick  This is the artist in you, not your ego. It's your inner self expression. If you are happy with the name keep it. Sometimes people express their inner feelings, desires, hopes through roles and characters. Don't take your role too seriously though. I mean don't let it take you away from everyday reality where you are you and not that character or role. Don't get stuck in it. Learn when to put it on and when to switch out of it because this is not easy sometimes.

The music industry is very brutal and competitive and you have to try to constantly  keep up with the trends but in that process you sometimes lose sight of the objectives you started with. Don't let anything stifle your creative expression.

Don't think too much about what people think or assume about you. That brings a lot of hesitation and confusion. Be free.

Best of luck on your musical career:)
