Profiting off Pain - Billionaires selling Opiods

7 posts in this topic

I don’t know if this is a conspiracy or not.

However, I care deeply about this epidemic and think it would be an incredible thing to help people recover and be sober. There is a problem when you can earn money from destroying communities and lives. I think the economy of the future should not allow this in my opinion.

I don’t know if a pain killer is inherently a bad thing… but when you know your medication is destroying the lives of entire communities there is something wrong.

A question I ask… how we people profiteering of these life destroying drugs, but we demonize magic much rooms? It’s challenging, but has a er of hypocrisy.

I wish well for anyone and all communities suffering from these substances.

Yeah, it's tricky with opioids, because sometimes relatively speaking you do need them because, well, to numb down a stronger source of pain in the body, for example with surgery they mostly do offer them at different levels of strength depending on your pain level. So, there's some use for them on those cases. If someone is also injured or experiencing some infection, opioids could help take off, again, the pain, if some can't handle on that level. Opioids, if I'm not mistaken, needs to be considered carefully because they also have some chemical addiction to them, via numbing.

@Danioover9000 It’s worth watching the video if you haven’t already. Addiction is also a complicated subject in general.

The video shows how these medicines we over prescribed, there was false advertising and low income hard working communities were targeted. It was largely a for profit drive. In many cases these powerful painkillers are not necessary.

Yeah, a painkiller can be useful. We are also making a lot of assumptions about pain, and what treatments exist. It’s not one sided. Perhaps the wide spread addiction goes beyond simply blaming the opioid and instead should look at all the pain, trauma, and illness present in western society.

I know Gabor Mate has a book…. Here is a talk I haven’t listen to but I’m familiar with Gabor Mates work just as I get into it.

I was asked if I wanted to be a Mod and said sure.

YOU WERE ASKED TO BE A MOD?! I emailed several times to ask because I do spend longer times here, and I know the forum rules and guidelines by heart, and am fairly decent when addressing any issues, what is this holarchy?

I'm not wholly defending opioids, as sometimes opioids are unnecessary, but you know, if you took and arrow to the kneee and get your arm mangled into a mess, and you were screaming in pain, you definitely may need a pain killer in that situation, or potentially morphine. Maybe it's just user error and over reliance on pain killers? Yes, false marketing is evil here, but also it can be argued that since their a business it's for their survival as well so it's justifiable in their view to falsely advertise that way.

I have a hunch it all started with Nixon and his administration, and also the early founders of western medicine and medicine in pill forms, the early days of big Pharma emerging and trying to compete with many smaller and established business that deal with selling liquid Marijuana and other powerful medicinal herbals. I'm pretty sure weeds and even psychedelics were a thing in the 60's-70's?

We live in a toxic, traumatized and ill culture where addiction is omnipresent. It just depends in the form it takes. I’m not free of them. Maybe a bit of food and phone addiction to be addressed.  I smoked weed for many years and it was an addiction. I also have dealt with anxious avoidant attachment style, so. I was using that drug, and even music and life purpose to chase the love I felt I couldn’t find.

@Danioover9000 I don’t know man. I had to think about it when he asked. But, decided I would as I value the health of the forum too. Just keep contributing as you are. It doesn’t matter. I used to want to be a moderator and sometimes felt  the same when I say others get mod status. I almost said no… I want to do it for the right reason. We will see how it goes. I want to be in integrity and humility. As long as I sense this is maintaining I will happily be a mod.

Yeah, painkillers can be useful. I used basic pain killer… Tylenol cold when I had Covid. Went three days no Tylenol and it was hell.

I am not against painkillers, but interested in solving crisis that destroy entire towns and parts of cities. It’s likely not just the drugs themselves but… our toxic culture. So much pain, loneliness, and people who have no sense of feeling connected or loved.

If there was more love, connection, holistic health in our society I don’t think these crisis would happen.

-

the video is also interesting when you think about systems thinking. When the company who made Oxy made the drugs harder to snort and inject it actually led people to more dangerous street drugs. Solutions to these problems needs to be holistic. It’s also a symptom of a spiritual crisis in the west. From indigenous in Canada dealing with the abuse of colonization and residential schools, to the 1/3 of Americans who were sexually abused, to the young men and women who grew up with an incarcerated parent… there is a lot of pain out there, a lot of people looking for love and wholeness.

People fall into drugs, addictions, distractions, cults, following influencers like Tate, ideologies etc… trying to find Love, to find a footing on reality.  People are looking for love, truth, beauty, connection, meaning, clarity, freedom from suffering, community, purpose, to feel good, etc…

Are people looking for God?

I have a song “ Cuz you wanna buy a home, just like you wanna buy true love…But baby,  you don’t know what love is, and maybe you don’t know what truth is…”

People are looking for truth and love, or at least clinging to whatever golden calf they find.

“Please, just take away the pain”

Keep both eyes on the road tonight
'Cause I'm driving home to you
Terrible song on the radio
Baby, what else is new?

You don't want to talk
You don't want to touch
You don't even want to watch TV
You say I can't see the forest full of trees
So burn it all down, and bring the ashes to me

Keep both eyes on the road tonight
'Cause God knows where I've been
Officer please, don't check my breath
That ain't my only sin

You don't want to talk
You don't want to touch
You don't even want to watch TV
If you can't see the forest full of trees
Just burn it all down, and bring the ashes to me

Keep you waiting, hour after hour
Every night, in your lonely tower
Looking down at all of the wreckage
When we met, you'd never expect this
And you said, maybe we don't deserve love
Maybe we don't deserve love
Maybe we don't deserve love
We don't deserve
We don't deserve love
Maybe we don't deserve love

Keep both eyes on the road tonight
'Cause I'm driving home to you
Terrible song on the radio
Baby what else is new?
Been hiding my scars in broad daylight bars
Behind life tracks on TV
If you can't see, the forest full of trees
Just burn it all down, and bring the ashes to me

Keep you waiting, hour after hour
Every night, in your lonely tower
Looking down at all the wreckage
When we met you'd never expect this
And you say, maybe we don't deserve love
Keep you waiting, hour after hour
Every night, in your lonely tower
Looking down at all the wreckage
When we met you'd never expect this
And you say, maybe we don't deserve love
Maybe we don't deserve love
Maybe we don't deserve love
We don't deserve
We don't deserve love
(We don't deserve love)

Mary, roll away the stone
The men that you love
Always leave you alone
Well go on Mary
Roll away the stone
The men you love always leave you alone
You hear your mother screaming
You hear your daddy shouting
You try to figure it out
You never figured it out
Your mother's screaming
That you don't deserve love
If you don't deserve love
And if I don't deserve love
Could we deserve?
Come down off your cross
And tell me
It's always the Christ-types
Mary, roll away the stone
The one that you love
Always gonna leave you alone
Particularly the Christ-types
Mary, roll away the stone
The one you love
Always leaves you alone
It's always the Christ-types
You're waiting on

Verse 1: Win Butler]
Heaven is so cold
I don't wanna go
Father in heaven's sleeping
Somebody delete me
Hardy har-har
Chinese throwing star
Lamborghini Countach
Maserati sports car
[Chorus: Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, & Both]
Rabbit hole (Yeah)
Plastic Soul (Yeah)
It's a real rabbit hole, yeah
Rabbit hole, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Post-Chorus: Win Butler]
Yeah

[Verse 2: Win Butler & Régine Chassagne]
Dad built the labyrinth
And we were born in it
Blowing on the cartridge
Of Kid Icarus
Born into the abyss
New phone, who’s this?
A silver thread, a french kiss
Arcadia apocalypse

[Chorus: Win Butler, & Win Butler with Régine Chassagne]
Rabbit hole
Plastic soul
Rabbit hole, yeah
Rabbit hole, yeah, yeah, yeah
Rabbit hole
Plastic soul
It's a real rabbit hole, yeah
Rabbit hole, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Post-Chorus: Win Butler]
Yeah

[Verse 3: Win Butler]
Fell asleep to the television, yeah
Wake up sleepyhead, yeah
Acropolis is burning, yeah
In the poster over your bed, yeah

[Chorus: Win Butler, & Win Butler with Régine Chassagne]
Rabbit hole
Plastic soul
Down we go, yeah
Rabbit hole, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Refrain: Régine Chassagne]
Nothing ever can replace it
When it's gone you can still taste it
Going on this trip together
Rabbit hole goes on forever
Nothing ever can replace it
When it's gone you can still taste it
Going on this trip together
Rabbit hole goes on forever

[Bridge: Win Butler]
'Til the world is made whole
One body, one soul
'Til the world is made whole
One body, one soul
'Til the world is made whole
One body one soul
'Til the world is made whole
One body one soul

[Refrain: Régine Chassagne, Win Butler, Both]
Nothing ever can replace it
When it's gone you can still taste it
Going on this trip together
Rabbit hole goes on forever
Nothing ever can replace it
When it's gone you can still taste it
Going on this trip together
Rabbit hole goes on forever
Nothing ever can replace it (Rabbit hole, yeah)
When it's gone you can still taste it [(Plastic soul, yeah)](25748569)
Going on this trip together (Rabbit hole, yeah, rabbit hole)
Rabbit hole goes on forever (Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Nothing ever can replace it (Rabbit hole, yeah)
When it's gone you can still taste it [(Plastic soul, yeah)](25748569)
Going on this trip together (It's a real rabbit hole, yeah, rabbit hole)
Rabbit hole goes on forever (Yeah, yeah, yeah)

The king's taken back the throne
The useless seed is sown
When they say they're cutting off the phone
I tell 'em you're not home

No place to hide
You were fighting as a soldier on their side
You're still a soldier in your mind
Though nothing's on the line

You say it's money that we need
As if we're only mouths to feed
I know no matter what you say
There are some debts you'll never pay

Working for the church while your family dies
You take what they give you and you keep it inside
Every spark of friendship and love will die without a home
Hear the soldier groan, We'll go at it alone

I can taste the fear
Lift me up and take me out of here
Don't wanna fight, don't wanna die
Just wanna hear you cry

Who's going to throw the very first stone?
Oh, who's going to reset the bone?
Walking with your head in a sling
Want to hear the soldiers sing

"Been working for the church while my family dies
Your little baby sister's gonna lose her mind
Every spark of friendship and love will die without a home"
Hear the soldier groan, We'll go at it alone

I can taste your fear
It's gonna lift you up and take you out of here
And the bone shall never heal
I care not if you kneel

We can't find you now
But they're gonna get their money back somehow
And when you finally disappear
We'll say you were never here

Been working for the church while your life falls apart
Been singing hallelujah with the fear in your heart
Every spark of friendship and love will die without a home
Hear the soldier groan, We'll go at it alone
Hear the soldier groan, We'll go at it alone
