Can regular Chelation counter protein powder heavy metal consumption?

14 posts in this topic

As the title suggests, I resistance train in the gym 4 days a week and rely on protein powder as my main source of protein, with carbs and calories, I cant beat that convenience. After learning that there is so much heavy metal content in that substance, Im now discouraged from using it, yet I desire to continue using it. So would it be worth it to just incorporate the chelation process Leo mentioned into my lifestyle to counter this or is this equal to "filling up my cup after I just poured it out kinda thing"? I can see this idea keeping me at a stand still if i chelate then immediately add more back and forth. Any advice would be helpful!

If you consume a toxic meal it is definitely a good idea to chase it down with some mild chelator like spirulina or activated charcoal.

You can do more serious DMSA + ALA chelation a few months out of the year, like regular oil changes for your car.

I heard that you need the combination of spirulina + chlorella to get heavy metals out because spirulina is responsible for binding the heavy metals and chlorella is responsible for getting it out of the system.
Have you done research about it?

There are various theories.

The point here is not to leech it from your body but to soak it up from your food, which are quite different things. Activated charcoal will soak up toxins in your food so they don't absrob into your body.

So basically I will just shit the toxins out instead of absorbing them?
Does the spirulina or charcoal have to be consumed with a meal or is it okay to consume it once as a supplement in the morning?

@Leo Gura I like the example like an oil change, that makes sense. So im thinking ill consume  spirulina or charcoal as secondary to every protein shake I consume, then periodically run the in depth chelation process to reduce my over all heavy metal levels. This should allow me to continue consuming protein powders? Final question would be, what activated charcoal brand or "mg" amount can you recommend? can you send a link?  I appreciate the response Leo, and thank you @Jannes as your questions were fit perfectly into answering mine as well.

@Kamo yeah I think we have the same mindset. It would be tragic to loose the comfort of protein shake :D

It would be good to find out to which degree spirulina or charcoal prevent heavy metal intoxication. If it’s good enough I will just add a green shake after my morning protein shake.

Yeah exactly, thats what I was thinking as well. Or get some activated charcoal capsules and down them with the final sips of the shake.

@Leo Gura will it also absorb nutrients from food?

Thanks for the post. Many of us are consuming protein powder on a daily basis and we won't stop.

Taking the spirulina and charcoil + chelation could make our awareness sharper if it is currently strangled by toxins.

A bit.

It will also absorb medication and supplements so don't take them together.

If anyone knows of any clean whey or plant protein supplement brands they could mention that would be extremely helpful. I have been using Garden of Life most recently.
