Ralston’s New Book - The Art of Mastery

81 posts in this topic

I really love how he describes mastery as a relationship. Makes the whole activity feel more alive. It all boils down to how you and key object relate. Bouncing actions and ideas back and forth until the line of possibility and impossibility begins to dissipate.

Peter has mastered martial arts and contemplation so it'd be wise to listen to him.

I agree. I’ve had many deep mystical experiences, but in the relative sense I am seriously as sloppy as a wet mop.

I’ll start reading the book today.

There is a risk and trap of over complication.

Yes, but different take. Both worth reading. They cover different aspects of mastery.

There’s also a risk and trap of driving a car everyday, yet millions of people do it daily.

Perhaps someone may claim that driving isn’t over complicated, but if that’s the case, why are there many accidents on the road (as one example)?

Many traps in every domain

I’m starting to realize more and more that Everything is Truth.

Therefore, You set the traps… and You discover the deeper mechanics that manifest in all traps. Only if you want to, of course.

Discovering meta traps is a God skill.

Look at Elon Musk. Is he a master at coding? Is he great at building rockets or awesome at engineering car?

What is his actual knowledge with regards to building of rockets or cars?

He is good at leading technology teams. Leadership is not about engineering or coding. It's about leadership.

You don't have to like Musk to recognize that he's a strong and talented leader. The Twitter stuff is just a distraction.

When you are worth $200 billion, you too can afford a distraction. Although it's clear by his own admissions that he is regretting it.

Yeah thank you. I am trying to gain insights on Elon by throwing his name out there: throw away a brick in order to get a gem: offer a few remarks by way of introduction in the hope that others may come up with valuable opinions but I am quite sure many of you know that I am baiting.

A fool debates everything they see wrong with a noisy frown.

A wise sages penetrate through every bait with a silent smile.

Elon Musk is Elon Musk because he is SD yellow. When you are at this stage you learn in a different way. And learning is both important for technical skills like coding but also for leadership.

I'd say he's much more orange than yellow.

You can be an amazing learner at any stage.

Jahahahaahah.  Give me a break, man. Elon Musk is doing more for the ecology than those avocados munching morality policing hypocrites at SD green.

If Elon Musk was in orange he wouldn’t be in the business of ecology. He knows how to make easy paper in other ways.

Seriously the SD common knowledge on this forum is so low.
