@Leo Gura Eckhart Tolle approves of Russell’s politics:

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

To be fair, Eckhart was either being nice or he hasn't seen many of Russell's videos. Eckhart says that Russell doesn't demonise anyone but the dude demonises the elites and the Biden administration every chance he gets.

@Oeaohoo  Lol your parody is amazing hahaha pretty much nailed it

This "end of the world" talk is as old as it gets.

Nurture fear on people, place yourself as the only one who "sees it all" and knows what to do.

Glad that you liked the parody!

Whilst I am definitely sympathetic to the idea that he is harnessing fear to exploit his followers, I’m still somewhat ambivalent. The so-called “ego” does love to use this kind of paranoid skepticism as a defence mechanism. For example, a while back I studied Nietzsche’s book The Antichrist extremely closely, copying the whole thing by hand from the page to a notebook of mine. Whilst it is a very powerful and prescient text, it is extremely egotistical to the point of megalomania and full of just this kind of paranoid skepticism. Here is a typical passage (when he says “priest”, you can substitute any spiritual guru you are skeptical of for these reasons):

Quote

‘From now on all things of life are so ordered that the priest is everywhere indispensable; at all the natural events of life, at birth, marriage, sickness, death, not to speak of “sacrifice” (meal-times), there appears the holy parasite to denaturalise them - in his language to “sanctify” them… […] Disobedience of God, that is to say of the priest, of “the Law”, now acquires the name “sin”; the means of “becoming reconciled again with God” are, as is only to be expected, means by which subjection to the priest is only more thoroughly guaranteed: the priest alone “redeems”… From a psychological point of view, “sins” are indispensable in any society organised by priests: they are the actual levers of power, the priest lives on sins, he needs “the commission of sins”… Supreme law: “God forgives him who repents” - in plain language: who subjects himself to the priest.’

This is a passionately exaggerated expression of what we are accusing Shunyamurti and others like him of, when we say that they are exploiting the fears of their followers. But I’m not so sure… Maybe we’re just too cynical to believe that anyone can be truly selfless. It’s always hard to know when you are projecting your own nonsense onto somebody else and when it is truly they that are flawed.

Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head… And as I climb into an empty bed, oh well, enough said… I know it’s over, still I cling, I don’t know where else I can go… Over…

Waking up doesn't equate to Growing up.

Many supposedly awakened guru's have pretty low ego development and are stuck in blue and orange.

Yep. Is he a Trump supporter?

Curious to know if Russel Brand critiqued the Trump admin with the same level of fervor as he does with Biden.

Shunya has brainwashed his cult of hippie followers into his apocalypse vision.

It's silly. Mainstream civilization is not going anywhere. His hippie commune will die out long before America does.

Betting against civilization is a really bad bet.

We are seeing know that not taking the vaccine was the best choice all along. A selfish one indeed, albeit the best one, considering many individuals are now dying of an spike in cardiac arrests.

Stopped following him for this reason.

Yes, exactly.

I still follow him now and then, but he's lost a lot of credibility.

Especially on his stories on Instagram, he basically shares just conspiracy theories type of content.

His lowest point so far is talking about chemtrails.

Aaron has lots of blue in him.

This. He's grown up in a blue Christian/conservative type of family, his upbringing still has a lot of influence on him.

Tbh, Jesse is conservative for sure, but far right, that's a bit of a stretch.

Anyway, still a good job on Aarons's part, he held up quite nicely on those pain-in-the-ass moments.

I don't think its so much a bet against civilization itself, but of its current design system. The way it currently is designed and runs is unsustainable. Both economically and environmentally. America is like a sinking ship that just keeps plugging the holes. Instead of realizing that those holes exist because of excess waste of resources with no mind to concentrate them towards efficiency.

America is more interested in maintaining power than using it wisely.

You are a selfless LACK OF APPEARANCE, that CONSTRUCTS AN APPEARANCE. But that appearance can disappear and reappear and we call that change, we call it time, we call it space, we call it distance, we call distinctness, we call it other. But notice...this appearance, is a SELF. A SELF IS A CONSTRUCTION!!!

So if you want to know the TRUTH OF THE CONSTRUCTION. Just deconstruct the construction!!!! No point in playing these mind games!!! No point in creating needless complexity!!! The truth of what you are is a BLANK!!!! A selfless awareness....then that means there is NO OTHER, and everything you have ever perceived was JUST AN APPEARANCE, A MIRAGE, AN ILLUSION, IMAGINARY.

Everything that appears....appears out of a lack of appearance/void/no-thing, non-sense (can't be sensed because there is nothing to sense). That is what you are, and what arises...is made of that. So nonexistence, arises/creates existence. And thus everything is solved.

René Guénon probably set the precedent for framing conspiracy in spiritual terms. I was recently reading Alexander Dugin’s critique of the Perennial Traditionalist idea of “counter-initiation” and the “counter-tradition” and he described it as follows:

The meaning of counter-initiation is set out by René Guénon in his book The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times. In brief, we can say that Guénon understands counter-initiation to be the sum of secret organizations which, although in possession of initiatic and esoteric data, nonetheless direct their activities and efforts towards a goal which is the direct opposite of normal initiation. In other words, instead of striving towards the absolute, they head towards fatal disappearance and dissolution amidst the “reign of quantity” in its external twilight. In line with Islamic esotericism, Guénon called the hierarchs of counter-initiation Awliya es-Shaytan, that is to say the “saints of Satan.” In Guénon’s point of view, representatives of counter-initiation stand behind all the negative tendencies of modern civilization and are secretly administering the course of affairs down the path of degradation, materialization, and spiritual perversion.

A lot of New Agers take on anti-mainstream anti-vax style conspiracy theories because they are anti Orange capitalism.

Look at Russell Brand.

Isn’t new age and non-duality synonymous to some degree? Rupert Spira’s and Tolle’s nondualistic teachings get directly chalked up as “new age”.

No, in reality non-duality would be at odds with new age, because non-duality would be the dropping of identity and beliefs. New age is a very distinct identity and has its own belief systems ie crystals, anti-government etc. If you look at non-dual teachers like Tolle or Spira you wouldn't say they have a new age identity, they dress very basically but not in robes for example.

But apart from the aesthetics it is very different philosophically, however a lot of new age can get into people like Tolle but they tend to revere them as almost like Gods on earth. A lot of them are completely devoted to a guru. I think a lot of these gurus actually think they're a little crazy and non-dual teachings  are to get them out of this kind of worship they do.

@blueberries I agree but his videos excessively demonize the Biden administration while defending Trump and saying he was actually right so its hard to say that he's not a Trump supporter.

If Russell brand wanted to bring people together, he would interview leftists as well but he exclusively interviews and defends right wing people and his viewers have become more increasingly right wing.
