This one is brutal.

Cop killed with one bullet to the head.

Shows you how deadly one lapse in awareness can be for a cop. This is what leftists don't understand.

I'm here checking out the earlier videos in the thread. Didn't even know the thread existed. I used to watch C.O.P.S. back in the day. This channel is way better.

I guess he got shot right after he fired that gun. I couldn't tell - the criminal, that is. The end was very abrupt.

Of course they filled that car with 100 bullets. No way you walking away from that.

You can read the full report in the video description box. It tells you what happened to everyone shot or arrested.

What's nuts is that the guy wasn't even looking when he fired it. This is the worst kind of bad luck. Shooting a cop in the head without even looking is crazy. And the cop was even holding a ballistics shield. Wow! He rolled the dice that day and got double zero.

What's nuts is that the cop got shot in the head by a single shot that wasn't even aimed.

Ok. Lots of caught on camera these days. Body cam and cell phones. It gets addicting watching these videos. Last night I was up late watching police videos.

I don't know how realistic it is to train cops in martial arts and how effective it would be for their real-world tasks.

They way I frame it is like training mathematicians to use calculators. Sure there has to be an investment and a period of learning but then the task at hand becomes much more efficient. It is neccessary for their job to know that skills.

Again, not all martial arts translate well into policing, as we've discussed earlier. I just focus on two facets: takedowns and groundcontrol. Please tell me with a straight face how come a police officer doesn't have competence in these two skills. The martial systems that have trained those facets in more depth are wrestling, judo and jiu-jitsu. My point is to make cops have the first or second belt at least or otherwise make specific training camps for policing. In the same way it is done in the military world, where they cherry pick the needed skills from martial arts for their particular needs and make a million dollar program out of them. Just a similar, more realistic version of that for cops. A solid training camp and maybe the condition of earning the belt before X years of working as an officer, to make it more accesible.

From all the police videos I have seen, arresting people is a lot more chaotic and dangerous than martial arts. Which is why they shoot people. In martial arts, when you make a mistake you don't die. That's the criticial difference. And you don't get sued for millions of dollars. Police have very strict protocols.

I understand that, it is a very legit point. Again, it's not bulletproof, in fact I build upon what you say as an argument to further promote martial training. If it is more chaotic and involves many more variables than martial arts, how come cops are not even trained in basic martial arts scenarios?

It's like saying no need for you to learn how to light a BBQ because in the woods it's gonna be very very different, don't you see? Well I say, if you haven't even been trained to light a BBQ how on earth are you gona thrive in the woods?

You have to demostrate that your fancy ideas work in real policing situations.

I did with the 3 videos I posted but here you have more to build background.

Why Police Officers Should Learn Jiu Jitsu

Why BJJ Is So Important For Police Officers & Great Technique For Police Officers by Nick Pollaro

Most police officers end up gravitating towards jiu-jitsu but in my opinion it takes time to translate those skills into policing (2 years aprox). As jiu-jitsu is probably 70% grappling and 30% wrestling and you do need that wrestling in the beginning for being a cop. I assume wrestling does translate very well but is unpopular and physically demanding. So as an MMA practitioner, if I would be setting a police training camp I would start with wrestling experience, just hands on playing and making them try what works and what doesn't, and afterwards teaching them basic takedowns like double and single leg. Then Jiu-jitsu techniques for ground control and the dirty fights that happen on the floor. Lastly I would do some judo throws in case they are against bigger opponents, as a developmental focus in judo is to use the force and momentum of a bigger opponent against itself, so I believe that would be useful once the basics are covered. These are my fancy ideas but they also come from experience and from understanding the needs of police officers and their modus operandi.

If I would be defending myself in the street my approach would be dramatically different, I would never wrestle or go to the ground. Cops play in pack and have guns. I would throw a boxing combination and get myself quickly out of there. This is to say that I carefully consider all that I learnt from MMA and many martial arts I've practiced over the years (taekwondo, judo, jiu-jitsu, boxing) for the needs at hand. Whether it is self defence or the martial training cops need to skilfully perform their job.

I have no experience in martial arts. But how much experience do you have in policing? The sword cuts both ways.

Touche;)

Zero first hand Experience in Policing

Decent Experience in Martial Arts

So it all boils down to how much we don't know

Police are generally poorly trained, they usually can’t shoot accurately either.

I assume cops in the US have better shooting skills. Here in Barcelona when we had the yihadist attacks there was a big scandal, as many officers were firing for the first time after many years and just couldn't shoot down the terrorists.

You have to be crazy to be a cop in the US. You have to play by the book while the suspects don't have to.
