He was charged with assault for apparently approaching the cop with clenched fists?  This seems like over charging.  He had a big mouth but he was trying to control the frame with talk.  I never saw him as being violent.

3 cops can barely hold down a 100 pound meth head girl. That dude was an ox.

Wrestling is a game, with rules. In real life a crack whore will bite off your finger, stab you in the eye with her car keys, grab your gun and shoot you in the face.

Those cops don’t have training.

A expert grappler can easily subdue an untrained person even when there aren’t rules.

This proves what? He is holding a little skinny guy smaller than himself who isn't even resisting.

He would not even be able to get his legs around that ox.

Cops are not choking people out, they must put them in handcuffs and into the back of vehicles. Go look at videos of how hard that is to do with even 3 cops.

@Leo Gura You maybe should have this conversation with Ralston.

How much experience do you have in martial arts? Maybe I'm wrong and you do have experience, but it seems to me your last blog quote can be very well applied to your position here.

Undermining the necessary role of martial arts like wrestling and jiu-jitsu for policing. For anyone trained feels very cringe the way some cops are handling these situations: physically ineficient and unprofessional. Just medium level wrestling, judo or jiu-jitsu and two officers would have handcuffed that black beast, I'm telling you.

On the other hand, you can see police officers with solid martial training and how well they handle these situations.

Imo, I cannot comprehend how martial arts are not a compulsory skill to become a cop, in the same way it is demanded for the military. It does make sense because they have different priorities like de-escalation but they should be professionals in takedowns and ground control at least.

Here is a little extract of the martial arts training you receive to become a soldier in the US:

Quote

In the U.S. military, martial arts play a vital role in preparing personnel for close-quarters combat. Programs like the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) combine techniques from Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling, judo, and Muay Thai to train Marines in hand-to-hand and weapon-based combat.

The Army Combatives Program emphasizes grappling and ground fighting for practical battlefield scenarios, while Special Forces units, like the Navy SEALs, further integrate Krav Maga and advanced techniques for high-risk missions.

These combat systems prioritize practicality, adaptability, effectiveness and survival in combat scenarios, fine tuning existing martial arts for military operations.

Otherwise nevermind, it's just my perspective. I don't wanna feed this too much. I just feel like you may be wrong and as that doesn't happen very often I wanna make you conscious of that.

God-Realize, this is First Business. Know that unless I live properly, this is not possible.

There is this body, I should know the requirements of my body. This is first duty. We have obligations towards others, loved ones, family, society, etc. Without material wealth we cannot do these things, for that a professional duty.

There is Mind; mind is tricky. Its higher nature should be nurtured, then Mind becomes Virtuous and Conscious. When all Duties are continuously fulfilled, then life becomes steady. In this steady life God is available; via 5-MeO-DMT, ... Living in Self-Love, Realizing I am Infinity & I am God

@Davino I don't know how realistic it is to train cops in martial arts and how effective it would be for their real-world tasks. The issue is that arresting people is a very specific skill which is not the same as martial arts.

That point about experience is precisely the issue here. Martial arts experience is not the same thing as police arrest experience. Ralston is not experienced in arresting people, as far as I know. You can't just assume that experience is transferable.

From all the police videos I have seen, arresting people is a lot more chaotic and dangerous than martial arts. Which is why they shoot people. In martial arts, when you make a mistake you don't die. That's the criticial difference. And you don't get sued for millions of dollars. Police have very strict protocols.

But I am open to being shown I am wrong. I just won't take the words of people with zero policing experience too seriously. You have to demostrate that your fancy ideas work in real policing situations.

I have no experience in martial arts. But how much experience do you have in policing? The sword cuts both ways.

Police are generally poorly trained, they usually can’t shoot accurately either.

It's not a requirement for the police force but they do have cops who have martial arts training on their own. I once dated a martial arts instructor who was a cop at the time turned police sergeant. I knew him for years even before dating. He did it on his own and had his own training school but it wasn't through the department. I think that would be too intense for the recruiting of officers which isn't that long of a process and also maybe their budget doesn't allow for that.

I heard it from various videos or interviews from former police officers

As soon as he started saying "What you go do about it, what you go do about it", after the officers told him to get on the ground and he said no. Error... Time for arrest, baby. He had a threatening tone and refused to obey orders.

Yeah, I'm surprised at how it is. I've seen quite a few videos where it's been such a challenge for the cops. I guess that's why they just shoot the big guys and get it over with. I know, I'm just saying. The female  shoplifter in the mall with the tank top on, that was quite challenging. Wore me out just watching it. These dudes ain't going down without a fight.

They only shoot if the perp holds a weapon or is charging at them like a bull.

They will not shoot a guy just cause he's big.

It's actually amazing how professional and kind most police are. They are way too nice in most cases. If I was a cop I would taser the hell outa everyone and get fired.

Where's your driver's license?

What's that? No license?
