Why doesn't Leo acquire more accreditation?

8 posts in this topic

In one of Leo's videos, Leo claimed to have done 2 Phd's worth of studying on his own. I see that being totally possible, as he is very knowledgeable on many topics. For the sake of the Actualized brand and credibility, why doesn't he actually "play the game" and get Phd's. Is he really, simply, beyond all that? Do we really think it wouldn't impact his credibility at all? Does he not want to yield to the authority of Big Academia, if only temporarily? Too busy with the channel? Just curious about the pros/cons that he thought through, as I'm sure he's put some, probably lots, of thought into this. @Leo Gura  ?

The only people who respect PhDs are other people in the system whose opinions don't matter in the grand scheme, because they aren't doing the important cutting-edge work. They're just upholding the status quo.

As soon as your views start to drift away from the mainstream narrative of the academic system, you'll be shunned anyway.

Just look at someone like Michio Kaku who starts to explore quantum physics in even a slightly new way. Now he's basically branded as the scientist who appears on UFO shows.

You could have 5 PhDs and as soon as you start talking about nonduality and spiritual enlightenment, all your credibility goes out the window, just like there are PhDs that are covid deniers or flat earthers.

If you have a PhD in one very specific topic, people will say "Oh he has a PhD in X topic but that doesn't make him an expert on everything. PhDs can still be stupid and irrational."

If you don't respect the system, why would you give them $100k and years of your life and further legitimize it? That's like being anti-war and joining the military to work your way up to the rank of General just to destroy the military from the inside. There are more efficient ways to accomplish your goals than becoming what you hate, or capitulating to authority.

Probably because it would be a monumental time sink with almost zero actual benefits.

Maybe he could use the Dr title to impress some girls in Vegas clubs :P

How many PhDs do you think God has?

Why on earth would a PhD be a credible thing? For an institution to credit you as an expert of their field you need to fulfill their expectations of knowledge in the field and then perhaps go 10-20% further. Any more then that and you would start to confuse them and you would be censored and ridiculed.

I would go as far as to say if you have a PhD then by definition you can't really be doing groundbreaking research.

This is not true.

But understanding existence is a very different pursuit than academic research.

PhDs are good for very technical scholarship.

PhD is a complete waste of time and money unless you need it for the next step in your career , mostly likely in academia or research. If you are doing what Leo does, PhD would probably significantly impair his work, progress, time, finances and willpower.

You should never do an academic course like that just for the sake of "having the title" to boost your self-esteem. However in a career where PhD is valued such as research & development, medicine, biology etc, yes you should get it.
