Disrespect

4 posts in this topic

I’ve have recently made new friends. Unfortunately some of them are quite disrespectful.

I’ve brought it up and been told I’m overly sensitive. I’m certainly more so than they are. However I’m fairly similar in tolerance to other Europeans I would guesstimate. They are all from outside the EU, it seems to me that these little pranks and such are not considered malicious or even rude. They do however ruin my evening or at least parts of them.

Some of these people I really enjoy so the plan is just to avoid the ones who I find awful. While I do get a desire to return the favor I do not think that’s the right thing to do. Not just because it I do not want to sink to their level, or create a tit for tat culture. But also because I would not be as kind as to be reasonable by going an “eye for an eye”.

How do you deal with disrespect? Is doing nothing more than avoiding people who disrespect you a bad option?

You can't please everyone nor can you change anyone. So avoiding is the best thing to do anyway.

Be careful being too demanding in relationships. Relate to the person at the level they are at, not where you need them to be.

By saying: " i didnt enjoy that if you continue doing that we wont see eachother again" and mean it,if they do it again you leave them no matter how enjoyable other things are...

I dont know situation but 9/10 when someone calls someone too sensitive its manipulation/emotional abuse tactic...

There is nothing safe with playing it safe.

Sounds like a great opportunity to clearly express how you’re feeling & set firm boundaries about what you will and won’t accept in the relationship.

Then if a boundary is violated you walk away/avoid interacting with the individual
