What's the book that helped you cure your addiction (whatever it maybe - alcohol, sex or pornography)?

Allen Carr's books are quite good for helping you cure additions. He wrote books about how to quit smoking and drinking. I personally escaped my porn addiction by reading the easy peasy method website/book about that addiction based on his methods.

His method is about addressing the brainwashing that an addict has which in his opinion is the main reason an addict still uses what they are addicted to. The method doesn't use scare tactics to make use quit but makes you realize that the reasons you have for that addiction are bullshit brainwashing designed to enslave you to that addiction. For example one of the reasons that is debunked is the classic "I need my [thing that I am addicted to] to relax. This is not true because your addiction is what is preventing you from experiencing relaxation that non-addicts experience with ease.

This is me judging the book by its name, but what does this have to do with addiction? When I say addiction I’m referring to addiction to things like masturbating.

@Daoguy I’ve read the book twice over the course of 10 months, but I still keep coming back. I don’t do it because I think it’ll make me relax, I do it because I feel very off when I don’t.

How do I stop?

@ThePoint The hack book I linked to earlier in the thread is the best method I have come across to quit that addiction for good.  You may need to read it a few times in order to quit just like I did. It is about changing your mindset about Porn. Basically, if you have understood the material you are supposed to no longer want to use porn. you also have to follow the instructions including never going back to watching porn once you decide to quit.

Do you mean that you are addicted to porn or masturbation? Masturbation isn't a problem in fact if done in a Tantric/Daoist way it can be quite amazing. Porn is addictive. I'm going to assume that you are addicted to porn because that would be a problem that the book could help you with.

The point about relaxation is just a common reason that addicts give to remain a slave to their addiction. I'm not saying that it is the only excuse used but is one of many reasons that brainwashing give people to remain a slave to their addiction. The fact that you think you need to use porn to feel how non-porn users feel just proves that you suffer from brainwashing which if you don't change will keep you addicted to porn forever. I can't say much more than read the book, follow the instructions, and use the resources provided.

In the realm of hungry ghost; by Gabor Mate, is really good book to understand addictions. It really helped me to understand what addictions are, why people get addicted and how addictions can be fixed. Highly recommended!

Nice read so far (I'm slow at reading, takes a while to fully finish it). Thank you, anyways! The book is awesome! I feel like it's written to fix "my" problem.

@Raze Which one would you say helps the most with masturbation addiction?

There is no easy way book by Allen Carr for masturbation. There is a free online easypeasymethod which is based on his work for porn.

The Russell Brand book is more for alcoholism or drug addictions.

I don’t know, it depends on you. Meditation has been shown to over time strengthen the part of the brain associated with willpower and quiet the part associated with impulsive urges.

@ThePoint Please have a look at easypeasy guide. It's a short one and you could complete it in just a few hours if you're habituated to reading and are a native speaker. Look for some other source if this didn't help.
